I have twin 3 year-old twin granddaughters coming to visit me in Atlanta, Ga. Any suggestions for activities for them? Museums, playgrounds, etc.?
I wish to thank everyone for your great suggestions. I'm planning a wonderful schedule to keep them busy and happy. I think this trip to Grandma's will be really fun for them.
Try the Imagine It museum for children. It is awesome and my children loved it when they were smaller.
Also Lake Lanier Night of Lights...before New Year's has been enjoyed by our entire family.

A great night time activity is the holiday lights at Lake Lanier. You drive through a beautiful exhibit of lights, the kids love it!

Depending on where you live there are many public parks that are great for a sunny day.
If you live near Alpharetta you can walk with them on the Greenway (a level/flat and wide sidewalk that goes for miles through trees and there is a creek that runs alongside...very picturesque, there's a good chance you'll see deer). Here is a site with good info, a map, etc.:

You can also find the local Barnes & Noble to see what activities they are having (usually story telling and some craft). It's also fun to just go and read books with them (there is an area for kids to hang out and read).

If time permits you could take them to the Aquarioum, the Zoo, Kangaroo Farm and the peting soo. Also some beatufil Xmas movies are out
The High Museum has a great children's area, as does Fernbank Museum, including IMAX movies. As for playgrounds, there's a great on in Roswell off Roswell Road near the intersection of East Piedmont. Not sure where you'll be staying...
Also in NW Atlanta, the Dwarf House is here -- a playhouse for Chick-Fil-A.
Stone Mountain holidays as well, and they really are a full-day into evening event.
In Lenox Square Mall, Macy's always runs the Pink Pig -- a little round-about train ride and they have activities usually in the Mall's main areas.

The ImagineIt Children's Museum downtown is fabulous and right across the street from Centennial Olympic Park (with awesome lights and a GREAT playground) and the Aquarium. The Zoo is great this time of year and depending on what's close -Leapin' Lizards in Decatur or Monkey Joe's -several locations -are jumpy/slide places that are wonderful. The Atlanta Botanical Gardens are beautiful and fun for kids to run around -plus they have a kids area, and the High Museum also has a kids place too.
If you're up for a road trip, the Tellus Science Museum is VERY cool near Cartersville -and they can dig for fossils, pan for gemstones too. I've always loved Fernbank, and it's fine, but Tellus overwhelmingly beats it.
The Center for Puppetry Arts is a great experience for kids as well and they always have some good kid shows going on. One theater in town (I think it's Horzon, but google to be sure) is showing "Madeleine's Christmas" and they would probably LOVE that.
If they're into trains, the Southeastern Railway Museum is lots of fun and very interactive.

I'm not sure if anyone has already suggested this but there is a Curious George exhibit that is taken place in Atlanta through Jan. 24th at the Childrens Museum of Atlanta The exhibit is for children of all ages I believe. I think I read somewhere that 2 year olds can even enjoy. It is a hands on experience type of thing. I'm sure you can find out some information on it on the The Childrens Museum of Atlanta, located near Centenial Park and I believe it is @12.50 for you to get in. Some kids are free and if you are a member it is less than that. I think this would be great for 3 year olds.
I would take some bacterial hand wipes with me though. Swine Flu and all this year has kept us away from some fun things but have decided to check it out next week.

"Snow Mountain" at Stone Mountain park starts on the 26th. There's also the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn.
You might also take them to the library or book store when they first arrive. Have them pick out books to read with you while here.
Discover Mills mall has a jumping place. Also a train and carousel to ride inside the mall.
The aquarium is so awesome! Can do that no matter what the weather.
But don't go non-stop with them. They'll fall apart on you after 2-3 days!
