Childcare Referrals

I'm currently about 38 weeks pregnant with our first child and am looking for childcare for when I return to work in mid-April. We only need childcare for about 8-9hr a day, 3 days a week between Mon-Thurs. I've become very aware of how expensive daycare centers are, especially for infants. We're hoping to find someone who can watch our son in their own home, possibly even someone whose already watching another child. Our son isn't even born yet and I'm already realizing how difficult it is to find someone you trust enough to leave alone with your child.

Any referrals for great childcare/nannies or agencies to consider? I'm in the Buffalo Grove area and work just down the street in Deerfield. My husband also works just down the street in the opposite direction in Wheeling. So, we're hoping to find something close by.

What can I do next?

Hi!
I saw you are from Buffalo Grove, but didn't know where you worked and what area you were looking to find a home daycare near! I own a home daycare and have 1 part time opening, but I am in Woodridge!

Hi D.....I don't have a solution for you, but I am in exactly the same boat right now....except with child #2....I am considering looking at the Kindercare at Lexington and Lake Cook Road, which is just down the street from my office....Not my first choice, but I'm running out of time and options....If you find something great, please do let me know as well!!!!

thanks,
G.

I am in Downers Grove and when I was looking a few years back, I was able to contact the YMCA in Glen Ellyn to get a listing of all licensed at-home daycares in my area. I think I just told them which towns I was interested in. (Not sure if you'd need to contact a different YMCA, but you could start with this one and go from there.) Because at-home daycares can accept only so many infants, it is not always easy to find a slot at an at-home daycare. You should look now and some will accept a deposit to hold a slot for you if you they have one. And fyi...I did not end up going with an at-home daycare but hired a nanny to come into our home because that is what I felt most comfortable with. I found her on care.com. Good luck!

I would look into home daycares. Some can be expensive but many are more affordable than daycare centers. Ratios are better too. In IL you can only have 3 under the age of 2 years at any given time (unless you have an assistant). In a daycare center you can have 4 infants per teacher.

I would offer my services, but Bloomington is probably out of your way big time.

Your local Child Care Resource and Referral can give you a list of home daycare's who are licensed or license-exempt. In other words legal in this state.
