Childcare for 14 Month Old near Downtown Los Angeles

I know of a at-home daycare and she has one fulltime spot left. She is off the 5 & Telegraph, would that work for you?

Both of my daughters went to La Petite Academy. It is in the First 5 LA building at Union Station. I cannot say enough good things about their school, teacher, director, and program.

You take the 110 north, exit on the 10E, but exit Alameda and there is Union Station. I was working in Glendale (LA Zoo) at the time and it was such an easy drop off and pick up because of the freeway access there and lots of surface streets to choose from too.

Very safe. They have great security doors and you must sign in and out, usually always a teacher or admin or director sitting at the front to maintain the security and you are given a key card to then gain access to the hallway of classrooms. They have two playyards for the different ages. They do gardening out there, water play, bikes, etc.

There is never tv, even on rainy days and I never brought home children that had excess energy. It is Montessori based, so their thoughts on teaching while playing is there, mixing some ages, but there are no Montessori trained teachers. They are not too heavy on academics, like a school that my oldest daughter went to, but the kids at La Petite are writing their names and learning to read. There is always circle time where they sing, and learn together elements of the topic for the 2 week period. Art and projects for them to get involved in.

You get to know all of the teachers, or at least the kids do, so they know everyone who works in the school and they are all very loving, patient. They work through problems, there are no timeouts, but having the kids talk out their feelings, redirecting, assisting kids to take turns. My daughter has great skills in waiting in line, sharing, and in general being social and nice to all children.

Again, I just can't say enough about them. You should set up a tour and see for yourself and if it is a good fit for you and your child. They are very reasonably priced too. . .they provide lunch and snacks for no extra fee, they have rest or nap time from 12-3pm and they are open from 6am-6:30pm. They have infant care through pre-K. My older daughter Elizabeth was there from infant through pre-K and my youngest Katie was only in the infant room before I decided to quit and stay at home. Katie's picture is still up in the infant room.

I would check around on websites for reviews. Like yelp.com. or other child rating websites. It really helps out to get various parents opinions on all of the schools in your area. That's how we found the school my son currently goes to and so far we have been pleased. If you can find a Montessori school I would check further into it. Generally they are pretty good schools. Of course, there are exceptions just like any school. But they are generally a great system that focuses on education at an early age they incorporate into the curriculum.
