T.,

I would take him to speech. A little boost cannot hurt. My son needed it and now he is doing great. It is nothing you are doing wrong, sometimes kids just need a little boost.

Hey T.,

The school district where I live will do speech evaluations at no cost to you at three years old. I would call and get an evaluation as soon as possible. If your district has this they will provide your son with what he needs before he enters school. I have a four year old at my daycare who was just evaluated and is receiving speech therapy weekly. The root to his problem is fluid in his years that has caused him great hearing issues which in turn has made his speech very difficult to understand. He is scheduled to have tubes put into his ears to correct the hearing issue so that will help to correct his speech delays. Good luck!!

Hi T.,

My name is T. and I am a Speech-Language Pathologist. Do you and any family members understand your son when he speaks? How about unfamiliar people? Have you had his hearing tested? There are some sound errors that children make that are typical of 4 year olds and the errors do go away as the child gets older. However there are sound errors that are not typical and can be remediated with speech therapy. If you decide to get speech therapy for your son, your first steps would be to get his hearing tested and to get a speech-language evaluation. Let me know if you need information on how to get a speech-language evaluation. I hope this helps!

since he is four and starts kindergarden next year call the school district you're in and request speech evaluation for your son. they will send you paperwork for registration and then get him tested. if he does require speech therapy he will get it through school district starting from now and then continue when he starts kindergarden. i just started the process for my four year old as well (all is being done through the school district)
good luck

Hi T.,
Check with your school district...they will provide testing and services if needed for speech. If he needs it take advantage of the free service. He will get the attention he needs before getting into school. Good luck.
