A few years ago, I actually got my daughter a B. sewing machine and it worked really well. Target and WalMart carry them.
Has anybody had any experience with the Pottery Barn kids sewing machine? We want to buy a machine for our daughter for her birthday, and would like feedback on the kids' machines that are available. I am also looking at the Jenome Beginners machine (QVC) and Discovery Exclusive Fun Sewing Machine. I have read the bad reviews of those, under $20, that can be bought at craft stores. We are looking for something that will last a few years, and has a couple of different stitches. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the cheap machines you listed, but I do know good machines. If you want a good machine, I would buy an Elna. If you want a good, cheap machine, I would look for an old Singer. If she truly has an interest in sewing, it will be doing your daughter a disservice to get her an inferior machine. You don't need to spend tons of money if you look for an old Singer and your daughter will have something on which she can develop her skills.
Best thing to do is go to www.amazon.com. they usually have at least 1-2 customer reviews on their website.
No experience with Pottery Barn. My mom bought me a used Kenmore for my first machine and it lasted a long time. I now have a Janome I bought at a sewing machine store in Champlin. If used is acceptable, you might want to look into something like that - a known sewing machine brand name. I wonder who makes the Pottery Barn machines? The schools my kids attended used Janome machines.
