If you google chi you can find them online from $45 to $65. We bought a regular one from walmart for $34 & it works just as good.
My son broke my CHI flat iron yesterday and I need to get another one. Walmart.com has an Andis ceramic iron that has very good reviews, even from former CHI owners. I'm tempted to try that $15 one rather than spend $120 on a new CHI. Has anyone tried the Andis? Does it really work as well as the CHI?
Thanks for all of your advice about my broken CHI iron. My stylist knew of no "unwritten" warranty about giving it back to the store so I took many of your advice and got the Sally's GVP iron. It was like $60 and came with a mini iron. I used it once and very quickly knew that I wanted my CHI again. The iron did not get as hot as the CHI as they claimed because I could touch my hair after running the iron through and with the CHI it's way too hot to touch immediately. I also had little broken pieces of hair all over the countertop after I used it. And it didn't grip my hair as tightly as the CHI so it took many more passes to get the desired effect. Thankfully my hubby got me a CHI for Christmas so I took the GVP back. All the while, the girl working at Sally's (who clearly didn't take any interest in the upkeep of her own hair)was telling me how awful CHIs are, they break, you can't control the temp, poorly made and on and on. I had mine for 5 years and it took a 2 year old and a tile floor to do it in! All of this to say....THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A CHI!!!! Thanks girls!

Personally, I would have saved money if I had just gone ahead and bought the Chi. We went through five cheapies before I broke down and bought the Chi for my daughter. However, I didn't spend $120. I got mine on Overstock.com for $80. Shipping is only $2.95 and it's usually pretty quick.
I have had 4 CHI's in the last 10 years and I wouldnt buy anything else. My last one I bought I got from my hairdresser and when it started acting up I only had to pay $35.00 for a brand new one!

My CHI broke too. Now I am using the Sally's brand GV FLAT IRON and it gets hotter than my chi plus it has a dial on it so you can control the temp. i love it and it was around $55. This is definitely worth the money! I think another mom mentioned it too.
I agree with the others. I have the GVP from Sally and love it.
Recently my Chi went out also. My hair dresser informed me that Chi has an "unpublicized warranty" whereby it can be replaced but only by a licensed beautician for $35 without the receipt or $20 w/receipt at Armstrong McCall. Call your hairstylist and ask her to return it for you. I had 2 replaced and they were older than the hills. Good luck! Please let us know how it turned out for you. Merry Christmas!
check out remington shine therapy flat irons. They are bout $50 and got good reviews. Just got one myself. So far I like it. Never owned a CHI so I don't know how it compares.
I agree with going with what you know works, but if you have a friend who is a stylist, see if you can purchase through her to guarantee a refund is something breaks again. We got a full refund on a defective CHI last year and my dgtr ended up with one her stylist recommended and its great. We know we can count on the warranty since we purchased it through a professional stylist. BUT, no discounts or sales.
I have a bablyss that I got a TJ Maxx for $40 and I like it alot, I haven't tried CHI, I like the warranty suggestion, even if you have to buy a new one a lot of stylist will help you get a good deal
I wouldn't go with anything but the CHI. Mine broke too and I had to replace it. I found a good deal at Costco, they were selling it for $65. Also Ulta has a good deal on them as well, I think it was around $80, but better than paying $100. I would just spend the money and get another CHI.
I have heard that the GVP iron at Sally's works just as well if not better than the Chi. They had a special a few weeks ago you got a mini travel iron with the purchase of the full size iron - so the 2 for around $55!
I purchased a $50 back up ceramic flat iron when mine broke. It only took a few weeks before I forked out the money for a Chi. In my opinion, you definitely get what you pay for with flat irons. The $50 one (sorry, don't remember the brand - was from Target) tears my hair and catches. It does not make your hair as smooth nor work as fast. I would save yourself the trouble and just get one that's worth the money.
I used to use CHI or Hai irons but I bought a Professional by Remington at WalMart and it works great. Go for the cheaper one!
Chi has a great replace/repair policy. Call them up -- you ship it to them - they repair or replace it for like $35. I have done it and should mine break again, iw ill do it again! nothing better than a Chi!

I think the CHI has a lifetime warranty. You may want to call CHI and check.
go to sally beauty supply they have a brand there called GVP(GENERIC VALUE PRODUCTS)..I got a straightening iron there last xmas and also they sell the GVP brand of biosilk for your hair...same thing just half the price.
i love my generic CHI it works just as well as my chi did when it got broken..you can get it for like $50.
in my opinion the cheaper products that you can buy ..are just that CHEAP! .. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ..AND IF YOU SPEND $15 HERE AND THERE TRYING THESE OUT YOU MIGHT AS WELL GO AHEAD AND SPEND MORE AND GET A GOOD PRODUCT TO BEGIN WITH.
I also heard about a warranty that CHI has. Call them and find out your options at least, to see if they can fix or replace yours for a reasonable fee. It would be worth the time if the answer is yes!
I dont know if the sale is still going on but my mom got the Ultra Chi that is $150 at Ulta for $75 on Sunday.
If not I second the GVP brand at Sally's it is $60 right now and comes with a free mini straightner too.

I know of a lady whos son ordered a load in bulk, and I bought one from her for 60.oo I believe it was. If you are anywhere near Colleyville you might call her to see if she still has them. Message me if you would like more info.
(I believe the maufactures warranty is only 18 months, and it wouldn't cover it in this case.)
I purchased a Remington at Walmart a couple of years ago cheap, I wanted to try one before I coughed up the dough. It works great and is still going strong!
Just remember....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.........you go cheap...you get cheap.
I would go get the CHI. I just bought my daughter her second one because her original one is FINALLY wearing out after 2+ yrs. I will tell you that it has taken a beating being carried with her to cheer competitions, school, etc. It was far worth the $$.
I did get the 2nd one at Penneys Salon. There was a coupon in the paper where you get $15 off. Taxes and all I paid $92. You might see if Bed Bath and Beyond has them and use the 20% coupon that comes out weekly.
Good luck.
My daughter and I have both used the Andis for several years. It is a very good iron and lasts a long time. I have the Sally's generic Chi now (GPS) and I can't tell much difference, other than it has a longer cord, that sometimes gets in the way. Keep your receipt and the packaging if you try the Andis from Walmart and they will refund your money as well if you don't like it!
Hi J.,
I haven't tried an Andis brand in particular, but I have purchased both a $10 flash iron from Walmart, and a $60 flatiron from Sally's...I can say there is an enormous difference in quality with even just $50 more. I bought the $10 iron a year ago and used it twice - it didn't work well and I think it was damaging my hair.
I would personally suggest spending just a little more and I think you'll like the iron a lot more.
Hope that helps a bit.
I've never used the CHI, but I do use the ConAir flat irons with ceramic technology. I love it. My niece who has super curly frizzy hair uses it also and loves it. The 2 inch runs around $20 and the 3/4 inch is $15.
I have only had an Andis for 1 year, but it has been great...I had completely straight hair before my daughter was born, and now I have some wave. The Andis takes care of straghtening the wave as well as curling under on the ends. So without a point of comparison I have been pleased, especially with the price!
yeah i tried that with a walmart curling iron...theyre junk dont waste your money
I've had my Chi for about ten years and it still works great.
I say a 15$ risk isn't too bad. Besides you could keep the box and receipt to return it if it doesn't work well.
I have a hair straightner from Sally Beauty Supply. It was around $35. Curlmaster Ceramics is the brand. I've been very happy with it and my sister uses the same one.
