Hi T.,

If you want to make your own cleaners or clean with household items I find vinegar very good for spray and wipe stuff, and baking soda good for scrubbing.

If you'd rather purchase products already made up to be eco friendly yet clean effectively, I recommend Charlie's Soap all-purpose cleaner for cleaning. Charlie's also makes a natural laundry detergent. I have a natural parenting store run out of my home in Farmers Branch and we sell Charlie's soap cleaning products, chemical-free soaps and toiletries, etc. Our website is www.babiesbottomsandmore.com or you can email me at ____@____.com.

The best way to clean your home, prevent mildew and not use chemicals is to buy a steam shark... they are wonderful... all you use is steam and the machine will get the grossest messes out with little work. I love it!

As for the washing machine, tom's naturals makes a great laundry detergent, and it is free of dyes and chemicals... good luck!

Hi T.,

Vinegar is magic as well as cheap. You can use it for cleaning tubs, sinks, floors (even hardwoods in a solution). It gets smells out of laundry. Put directly on soap scum and hard water it removes them with a little elbow grease. It absorbs odors and leaves no smell once it's dry. It is good for cleaning out fridges and trashcans for that reason. A cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle will help soften fabric and a cup to the wash will remove odors.

Baking soda is a good abrasive cleaner, like comet or ajax, but without the bleach. You can make a paste with it and apply it to the tub for 2 hours and go back and get all the soap scum of the sub and shower walls. Pour a cup of baking soda down the drain and follow with vinegar and it will remove odors as well as unclog a drain. Also cheap.

Rubbing alcohol is great for windows mirrors, and chrome fixtures. Also great for ceramic tiles.

For dusting and furniture pollish you can use olive oil and lemon juice.

Hydrogen peroxide gets out blood stains like a champ as well as other stains.

I use Melaleuca products.....they are safe and much better for you than others.......if you use bleach, or anything like it, you are damaging your lungs and your clothes.....did you realize that what you wash your clothes in stays in the clothes and then goes in through your skin while you wear them? Same with the sheets you sleep on.......They have some food, laundry, bathroom, cleaning, vitamins & weight loss, you name it.....so it's great.

If you would like to know more, send me a message.....you can get a bit of info at www.melaleuca.com........but if you are interested, I'd like to introduce you to it........you have to come in by a member, which I am.......

I love the products.....and it's helped my husband and I plus our dog breath a lot better! They are a debt free company in business for 25 years and back by the BBB.....

Have an awesome day!

I love the Melaleuca cleaning products, and notice another reader has also recommended them. They products are natural and work great. We have sensitive skin, and have no reaction with these products. Check out their website at www.melaleuca.com, and contact the poster below if you are interested. Good luck!

I use baking soda and vinegar alot. I google searched Eco Friendly Household Cleaner and got a ton of great recipes 3 years ago. I now make all of my own kitchen, bath, and floor cleaners.

I use a lot of vinegar for all of the previously mentioned reasons. But I also add some different essential oils--tea tree. peppermint, lavender, lemon, orange, clove, etc... I've studied up on them a lot and find that if nothing else, they make cleaning smell WONDERFUL! They all have antibacterial and antiseptic qualities, most repel insects. Plus, bonus, they are traditionally used for homeopathic healing, so that's always an option. You can go to this website for an info resource on EOs: http://hubpages.com/hub/Top-10-Essential-Oils-for-House-C... . I always mix orange and clove with water/vinegar mix and mop with it. Also added to spray bottles is a great multi-purpose cleaner. I think it just takes the reliable vinegar and baking soda to another level. You can find essential oils inexpensively at the Good Earth Natural Store or others, I'm sure. Also, FYI, I know that EOs can range in price and so for medicinal uses I go for the best quality $12-40, but for cleaning I just choose a good quality $3-10. They go a long way as you will only need a few drops for a big bucket/bottle/etc. The price is well worth it.

Hi T.!

This is MY FAVORITE!!! I'm not going to repeat, so I'll say: listen to Lisa C and Mom 2 3 Ninas - they give the best advice!

Personal opinion: DO NOT buy name brand "non-toxic" products - you can save bundles of money by using vinegar, baking soda, etc. and those are the ingredient bases for the expensive brand name "non-toxic" cleaners! Go to the Dollar Store and buy several plastic spray bottles for only $1 each! You can use those to whip up whatever you need and then label with a Sharpie. We are much healthier AND saving money as a result of the switch!

Happy, healthy cleaning!

God's Grace to you,

Lisa :)
