Continue with Neosporin..Sometimes ice may help with swelling, and pain. Otherwise, I would just leave it alone. Poor thing!
I thought I was getting a zit on the corner of my mouth... nope, it was cracked from being dry... but I had put a dab of zit creme on there. It got in the crack and burned like hell, so I immediately wiped it off. This morning I put a little neosporin on it, because now it's cracked and peeling... ouch. It looks awful! I'm guessing the soft tissue towards the inside (of my mouth) got a chemical burn from the zit stuff. I know your mouth has AMAZING regenerative powers, so should I leave this alone, or continue to put neosporin on the outside part? It's red and kind of swollen, but not cracked anymore (not like it was). I also know you shouldn't really put neosporin on burns (or near your mouth, I know, I know, I know)... but it looks bad and hurts :(
@B, I know it's not a cold sore only because I've been battled dry, cracked lips ever since VA weather went all bipolar on me... but thanks for the neosporin tip, I'm going to keep up with that and see if it helps... ouch.
LADIES, I appreciate it, but I'm 100% sure it's not a cold sore :)

It sounds like a cold sore. LOL! Im kidding. I would do carmex.
two things you could try.. one, PURE Aloe Vera Gel (can be purchased at a health food store) you want the pure not the kind mixed with creams and junk. Two, PURE coconut oil (also found in health food stores) will help the dryness while it also promotes healing.. it's great for chapped lips as well..
and of course, cooking :)
The mouth/lips area has as many if not more nerves in it than your finger tips.
It's one of the major reasons baby's explore by putting everything in their mouth.
The zit cream was probably a bit acidic and zinged those nerves but I doubt it's a chemical burn.
I wouldn't worry about Neosporin near your mouth - it's fine.
Many people use it for chapped/split lips.
The nerves might be a bit extra sensitive if you've got a cold sore forming and if that's the case Neosporin won't help much, but it won't hurt.
There's something called Abreva which might help a cold sore heal up a bit more quickly than it otherwise would.
It sounds like it is irritated from the zit cream, I would just leave it be. Just keep it clean and be careful with lipstick and/or makeup.
Try a little Blistex if it is dry, not neosporin.
It really sounds like a cold sore to me, especially since you thought it was a zit at first. Get some Abreva.
Are you sure its not a cold sore? It sounds just like how my moms start.. either way, I would put neosporin on it if it helps. Take an alleve to help with the pain and inflammation. It will heal, it will prob just take a few days bc that area is easily reirritated because we are constantly using our mouths in some way.

I don't think it from the mold. If it was - you would have more on your body.
I don't think it's a chemical burn - it is was - when you wiped it off - the chemical would've have smudged a tad further around your mouth and it would have extended the crack/burn. Does that make sense?
It sounds like a dry lip that got cracked (hurts) and might be getting infected. If you can put a SMALL bandaid on it - you know those little round ones? I know - it may LOOK FUNNY - but it will keep it clean - then do it.
If after 4 days it's not healed? Make an appointment with the doc.
I kind of hate to even suggest this, but do you think this is related to the black mold incident? Call your doc!
