Cheaper Airfare?

I checked all the airlines at their websites. Then I went to www.cheapair.com. Their price was the most expensive! American Airlines was cheaper than cheap air! I think United was about the same. I am wondering why "cheap airfare" websites such as cheap air feels justified in categorizing themself as cheap or cheaper airfare? Has anyone used a cheap airfare website that actually was cheaper? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have discovered that prices advertised on Orbitz, Kayak, and Travelocity are the same amount as Delta, United, Alaska etc. The only place where the flights are cheaper than those websites is Southwest. They don't charge bag fees which save us several hundred dollars-they also are the best with kids far and wide!

I heard on a morning show this past year that 6 weeks out from your travel time is the best time for best fares. I don't know why but it seems to be holding true the two times that I have chosen to use this timeline. :)

They can be cheaper and they can be more expensive. Pretty much like anything else that claims to be discount.

It should be easier than that but I look up multiple sites and direct with the airlines. It is pretty much the only way you get the best rate.

One thing that may have happened and it is a trick to look for is what is included in the price. Sometimes when I go on an airline website the price does not include taxes. Doesn't seem like a big deal till you consider the taxes are more than 100 dollars sometimes. Most of the discount websites include taxes, or they did last time I looked.

We use priceline.. For flying out of Austin and traveling where we travel.. it is the least expensive for us.. And yes, AA is the least expensive for us..

If we lived somewhere else, there is a possibility another website and airlines might be less expensive..

You just have to research it.

Everytime I answer a question like this my motto is go with your favirite airline website. They usually have the best deals, especially if booked more than 21 days in advance.

I use Southwest and American a LOT. I book travel weekly.

When someone is on a discounted ticket, they are first to be booted, etc from the flight because the airlines and hotels do not like the discounters. At an airport, you have no customer service available to you to help you.

As for hotels, same thing... go directly to your favorite hotel website. I know from experience.. we are diamond members for Hilton and if the hotel is sold out when we call for a room, whomever is on the discounters gets relocated to another hotel. We travel a lot, it happens all the time.

Stick with your favorite airline and hotel website and you can get deals as good or better than a discounter.
