Actually WalMart isn't a bad option. I always forget that they have a fabric section. The selection isn't as great as a true fabric store but the prices are great.
It seems like every town has one. An unorganized, unassuming fabric store with really great deals! But it seems like they never advertise, so you have to hear about it by word-of-mouth.
Is there one in the Boise area? I need cheap fabric!
Well, I've already been to JoAnn's, and they don't have the fabric I need. I've been to Walmart, but they just remodeled our store and shrunk the crafts department big time. I bought some fabric there, went back to get more, and it was gone. And it wasn't their $1 or $2 fabric, it was the full-priced stuff.
I love Home Fabrics, but they don't have much in lightweight cotton. Their stuff is great for curtains and reupholstering. And if you just want a solid comforter, but I need to piece mine (unless they had red bandanna fabric, but they don't)
I haven't ever gotten good deals at JoAnn's. Their clearance stuff was $4-5 a yard! I'm making a quilt, and $4 a yard is going to make it cost $60 to make a twin-sized quilt. That's not a good deal!
And Hancocks shouldn't be dusty. It's a nation-wide chain. Sounds like just a poorly-kept store.
So no warehouse-type stores with 99 cents a yard deals?

My favorite fabric store is Home Fabrics on Franklin Blvd. between Maple Grove and Milwaukee. They just recently reduced their cotton decorator fabrics to a permanent price of $3 a yard (they're 54"!) and they currently have a sale of an additional 50% off of all their clearance until the 10th of August. The only thing I don't like about this store is that they close at 6pm. Hopefully you'll like it, and good luck!
Near the JoAnn's on Cole Road is another fabric store..Hancock? Its big, dusty, and often have they really great deals. They have a GREAT selection of printed fleece fabrics for all sorts of baby projects. Its on the same side of the road as JoAnn's in the next shopping complex, near the Ace Hardware. They are close to each other, so its easy to hit both stores. For JoAnn's Fabric, be sure to register online for their mailing list. They regularly send out great coupons that you can use in the store. Have fun!
I can usually find pretty good deals at JoAnn's. It can be hit or miss depending on what kind of fabric you're looking for, but they often have 40-50% off select fabrics. They also usually have a lot of clearance fabric, although you have to be willing to dig to find what you want.
