I know Captain Hope's Kids picks up as does www.ClothesForKidneys.org
I love to have garage sales, but this year with a newborn and a house for sale so we can move to OK, I don't think I can take it on. I am looking for a charity to come pick up my things (75% clothes-women, maternity, and baby) and give me a reciept for our taxes. I would like for it to go to an organizaition that will give it to people who need it, not resale it. Any ideas???
Thanks

Please consider calling Friends of the Inn, the resale store that benefits the only FAMILY homeless shelter in all of Collin County, the Samaritan Inn (google this to find phone number). They are unique in that if an individual or family is in need they will GIVE them whatever they need, unlike Salvation Army that has limits on items. They do sell to the general public but all the proceeds go to the shelter. I take all my donations there but they also pick up.
The Salvation Army does pick up. I'm not sure about clothing but they have picked up larger items from us such as appliances, furniture.
Also, Hope's Door might use the items since it is for women who have nothing and are getting back on their feet from leaving abusive situations.
As far as Craigslist, be very careful. I've only allowed 1 person to come to my home due to a CL ad and I was very cautious about it. I would not have allowed that but I was selling the trampoline and they needed to see it plus my hubby was here.
Good luck
The Samaritan Inn in Collin county is a great one. I do know that they pick up, but it may just be furniture.
All of the things that are donated are sold in their retail store, but they are also used to cloth the homeless people that live there. All procedes from the store go directly to the shelter and it is the only one in Collin county so they have a lot of residents.
The shelter and store are located in Mckinney, their website is www.thesamaritaninn.org
Hope that helps :)
Sorry, didn't see previous post..also, they do give you a tax reciept.
I believe Salvation Army picks up and they will give you a receipt.
You can put items that are still in good condition on Craig's List. People can come to you at your convenience.
