My daughter had the same problem and I actually put a little vaseline on her cheeks and it seems to help as well as being soothing. If she has long hair tie her hair back so it doesn't stick to the vaseline. hope that helps a little.
i think my little girl has chapped cheeks. her cheeks always stay red and they seem to be peeling. it gets worse as the weather gets colder. i guess it is because no matter what i do she has always got drool all over her face. the doctor said there is nothing i can do but i am hoping for some advice. i know chapped lips are painful sometimes and i can't imagine that her cheeks don't hurt sometimes. do you have any suggestions on what i can do to help her?
thanks!

When you were at the doctor, did they say anything about eczema? Does she get chapped like that any where else? My son started out with it just on his cheeks but eventually he started getting it on his upper thighs and arms. The cold weather always makes it worse. Anyways, I use Aquaphor on his cheeks and it always helps!
Try to find a product called Aquaphor. I think that's how it's spelled but the pharmacist at any store would probably be able to show you where it is. When my daughter was about 12 months we had a very cold winter and it was the only thing that seemed to help! Good luck.
Hi P., I had this same problem with my daughter and son. Get some regular Chapstick and rub it on their cheeks. Put it on there til they're healed up and then put it on them before they go outside. When they have a bad cold and a sore red nose, use Aquaphor on their nose and it will be almost healed overnite. They make a Chapstick for the nose now but it's hard to find. The regular works great. my youngest to a dermatologist for similar problems. IF you have tricare they will pay for it. Just go to your PCM and get a referal. They gave us lotaion and soap and hes much better now. Just keep him as moist as possible, this weather is a pain right now. Hope this helps some.
I would assume that if chap stick helps lips it would help cheeks. My son sucks on his chin some how and we constantly have to put chap stick on his chin and it heals it until he starts it up again. Not sure if that would work in your case but you can always try it.
Other than that..just hope her cheeks heal quickly!
At age 51, I STILL keep a tube of Desitin® or A & D Ointment® in my first aid kit. It's great for chapped lips, detergent hands, drool rash and many other things besides diaper rash.
Put it on at bedtime or nap time.
Also, make sure she's getting enough vitamin C.
We just started going through this last week with my 7 month old. I used Eucerine for 2 days and it cleared up. Then it came back when I stopped using it. As long as I use the Eucerine every night, her perfect little cheeks have stayed smooth.
Good luck!
My daughter has had excema real bad since she was born. I have a wonderful pediatrician who gave me a prescription ointment (since she would scratch so much she bled) that I mix with Aveeno lotion and it works miracles on her. I also used aquaphor on her under her chin, in crease of her elbows, behind her knees because she would sweat in the summer and it would get really chapped and that stuff is so thick it just coated it and worked well. she has such sensitive skin I wash her with Aveeno body wash too and, so far this winter, she has not had a bad flair up at all!! She used to keep a red chin from a drool rash and the aquaphor really worked because it is so thick it keeps the saliva from actually soaking into her skin.
You may want to try that and see if it works. I hope you find something, I know how miserable they can be when they itch and hurt from the dryness.
Good luck!!! M. Gillham
Try vasoline. It works wonders!
"Teeny Faces"- I think Gerber makes it. This line has a large "chap-stick" for baby's face. We got it at Toys R Us.
I am dealing with the same thing with my daughter. I know exactly what you are feeling. I personally have been using Lanisoh on her cheeks, which seems to be helping some, I have heard of others recommend Aquaphor, or even vasoline. The idea is basically to keep your baby's cheeks moisturized though make sure what ever you use doesn't have any perfumes or dyes that can and will irritate the already sensitive skin.
I hope it gets better soon!!
I was having the same problem with my 8 monty old. His cheeks were starting to look like leather and chapped, his arms and legs were really dry 2 hrs after I would put lotion on him and he was starting to get dry/flaky patches on his head. I thought it was ezema (sp?) but then I figured he was too old to have that since he never had any problems before. I've got very dry skin in the winter time too and am constantly putting lotion on myself. I went out and got my son the Aveeno Baby with the dark blue cap a few nights ago. I've been putting it on him twice a day, bedtime and when I get him dressed, and what a difference it has made!! All he really has now are the dry spots on his head which I put this on there too but this area is being more stubborn!! It is a little pricy but IMO well worth it!! I paid around $4 for a 5oz tube but it is cheaper than the 3oz jar of Aquaphor from Eucerin for about $8!!! HTH and good luck!!!

You need to use something on her skin that will block moisture from the drool getting in and still heal the skin. I would recommend using Aquaphor or something similar in order to accomplish this. If it continues, she could have excema which would require something a bit stronger. Your pediatrician should be able to recommend something or give a prescription for something that will help.
Hello,
You can try a cheek chap stick. We had one when my daughter was a baby and it worked very well. You should be able to find it at Babies R Us or maybe one of the pharmacies. I think Gerber makes it but not positive.
Good luck,
A.
Hi P.,
I had really dry skin when I was a child, and sometimes it can be painful. You might want to try some Vitamin E Gel. You should be able to find it at any drugstore, and it relatively inexpensive. Just rub that on her face two to three times a day. Even if it doesn't fully get rid of the chapped skin, it will offer her some comfort. Another thing you could try is Aquaphor. It's made by Eucerin. I use that on my children's faces when they're chapped, it also works wonderfully! Hope this helps you out. Let me know how she's doing. God Bless!
P.,
My daughter had the same problem last winter. I found a lotion by Johnson & Johnson that is for baby's faces. It is made for chapped skin and even has a sunscreen in it. It says right on the package that it helps to keep drool from chapping your baby's face. I believe I purchased it at Target. It seemed to cleat it right up. Hope this helps.
P.! My 3 year old daughter had a "drool rash" on her chin because she sucks her fingers when she is tired, or less often, when she is anxious. It looked terrible and I know it bothered her because she complained about it.
I took her to our family care practioner, and she decided to try this cream (availble only by prescription) called Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide cream. It worked like a charm! The rash is cleared up! I still have to put it on my daughter everyday, because she always drools when she sucks her fingers, and the rash comes back from the moisture and bacteria.
The prescription is an antibacterial and cortisone cream. It only costs $4.00 at WalMart as a generic. Even if it doesn't work, you haven't wasted a lot of money. Ask your doctor to prescibe this cream to see if it helps any. My doctor wasnt' sure about the efficacy of the cream, so my daughter was a little, successful experiment.
I know, I should encourage her to stop sucking her fingers. She already complains about her wet hands and wet sleeves. But. . . I sucked my fingers, too. I gave it up around age five; I think that is when my mom got rid of my lovey. . .
When my son was younger, he drooled A LOT! I mostly used vaseline and that seemed to help.
Hi There, their is hope. I had the same problem with my little boy and their is a product that cleared up his cheeks overnight several times. I think its called Little Cheeks and may be from Gerber. It is a thick medicated balm that comes in a container almost like deodarant. Hope that helps!
I read the last advice given on Feb 3rd and that mom is right. Aquaphor is the way to go. Lubricate your child very well, esp. after baths. I always use it before bed time too so that it has time to sink in over night with out getting rubbed off by my little one during daily activity. I hope it gets better. Hang in there Spring is coming.. :)
I use Aquaphor on my 4 year old's cheeks. As for the chapped lips, ask your pharmacist. I think it's Blistex that makes a really good salve for that.
hope that helps

I have coated my daughter's face with high quality (Arbonne, Este Lauder, Clinque, Almay) fac cream before she goes out into wintery conditions, and it helps alot. I try to avoid the more intense, ezcema-type cremes since you want the minimum solution tried first. Neutrogena Norwegian Formula or Fisherman's formula is a great value and does the trick.
I can't imagine what your'e little girl must feel like cause you know that's got to heart everytime she makes an expression. But Arbonne carries a baby line and it works great on my daughter. If your'e interested email me at ____@____.com and I'll send you some great before and after pics of babies that had everything from dry skin to excema. I'm sure that I read one testimonial where they had been to the dr. and nothing helped, but the Arbonne products after a short time using it the baby's faces completely cleared
Have you tried putting triple antobolic ointment on it when she goes to bed? My son has had sililar problem and thats what I have done in the past and it seems to work!!
we had the same problem. Balmex is a very thick protectant to moisture it worked very well on her face, but you have to apply it gently. also aquafor creme -- very thick barrier against moisture!
Hi P.!
My little girl had chapped skin also. We used baby oil & we also used Aquaphor which you can get in a pharmacy but its over the counter! Hope all turns out!
Hi Pam...I am a nurse and one of the docs I work for is married to a dermatologist. My daughter had the same problem and they told me to use Aquaphor lotion on her twice a day. It really does make a difference and gives a barrier for drool! Also make sure you use a very mild baby cleanser on her skin. Hope that helps!
My son gets chapped cheeks too, I put vaselive on them so they keep them moist or you could try lip balm, how old is she? My son is 8 months old so I try to keep a bib on him all day so it catches the drool.
my babies have eczema and i use Eucerin Aquaphor for babies, available at any drug store and Kroger for sure in the baby section...good luck!
