Anyone have experience with chalkboard paint? I have a small table that I would like to paint so the kids can use it as a chalkboard. Would love to hear any experiences with this paint and any tips that you learned. Thanks!

Seven years ago, I transformed the lower half of the wall in my laundry/mudroom into a magnetic chalkboard. I used two coats each of magnetic and chalkboard paint. My three granddaughters have tested its durability with chalk, magnetic numbers and letters. The wall has even withstood their enthusiastic attempts to wash their wall with soap and water

To date, I rank the wall as one of my best investments in my grandchildren. The chalk dust disappears with a quick "once over" with a damp mop--a cheap price to pay for hours of creative activity away from television!

i just made a chalkboard a month ago....i went to home depot & bought some mdf & used chalkboard paint....make sure to use 2-3 coats, use even strokes, use a roller & enjoy.....the chalk is a bit messier cause it makes a bit more of chalk dust, so if the table is sitting on carpeting you may want to put down an old towel.

We painted a small wall but I don't think we painted enough coats because it doesn't wipe off well. I would make sure you do as many coats as it calls for. I love it though!

chalk board paint is awesome. It takes 2 to 3 coats to give a good finish. Cleaning is easy when there is a build up of chalk, and if they write on it with something other than chalk you can touch it up and make it look new again. I used it for the firs time about 6 years ago for my kids walls. Young boys and teenage girls. It was great they were able to express themselves in a whole different way, leave notes and just have fun. We loved it.

Watch out for the chalk dust!!! It looks like fun until you have crushed pieces of chalk all over the floor and chalk dust everywhere.

We made a small chalkboard on our wall. We made sure it was very smooth and on there in several coats. Yes, there is some dust, but it's not a big deal.

My only advice is to make sure you get the paint in the can, NOT the spray, unless you intend to do it outside.

My response was going to be the same as Danielle's.

We have a square on our wall that we haven't really been impressed with. It doesn't wash off well, it gets dust all over the place. Perhaps we'll try another coat or two per Kim's advice.
