I am looking to purchase a new chair to feed our little one in. My thoughts are either a rocker/recliner or a glinder. Can you moms that have these give me your pros and cons on the two options that we are looking at?

Thank you for your input.

What can I do next?

Hi,
We bought a rocker/recliner for the simple fact that we can use it in another room of the house when we are done rocking babies. We did spend the extra money on leather because we wanted easy clean-up. I have since talked my sister into a rocker/recliner over a glider and she LOVES it. The overstuffedness of the chair is comfortable and if you fall asleep in it it really isn't that bad :)
Hope this helps

I have a rocker glider...although it is nice, it's not where I liked falling asleep in...because invariably the rocking will also put YOU to sleep! My recommendation...get something that feels comefy to you so that if you DO fall asleep you won't feel achy in the back, neck, etc. for it.

Final piece of advice...get something that will grow with you...my kids are 5 & 7 and STILL love to sit and rock with me...wish I'd bought the recliner now.

our recliner was hard to get out of, I liked the glider better.

I definitely recommend the Glider Recliner. I bought a cottage glider recliner is made by Little Castle. There is a bunch of fabrics to choose from and it is so comfortable, it reclines almost to a flat position and it is easy to get up from. It glides when it is not in recline mode. The handle to recline is hidden so it look really nice. Many of the fabrics are neutral so you can always move it to another room in the house if you decide not to use it in the nursery forever. I found the best price and free shipping at royalbambino.com

I have a glider that I love and it was probably one of the best baby purchases I have made. The ottoman that goes with it even has a nursing stool that pops out for you to put your feet on. My glider also can be reclined and has a handle to stop it from gliding and become stationary. We feel asleep in it many times and it is sooo comfortable. It was pricey but totally worth it in my opinion. It is a Dutailier that we got from Babies R Us and I think we spent about $450 on the glider alone, the ottoman was extra and we had to order it because they didn't have it in stock. I really can't say anything bad about it.

A glider rocker is the way to go. They are just so comfy and the motion is smooth and soothing (for you too!)

I have loved my rocker recliner for over five years now. It's microfiber, and even an attack by a Sharpy marker came off (with soft scrub) with no trouble. I still cuddle my big babies in it and probably will for many years to come! [They are 4 and 5 now.] The gliders seem like a nursery piece and become obsolete, and I wanted something that would stay with us.

I recommend either!!! I love gliders but didn't get one and ended up using a smaller rocking recliner but still love that. Just be sure you get one that has some sort of padding under your arms! And one with a stool is great. Pockets on the side are a plus!!

You might want to go for something that you can't rock in while you nurse or give the baby a bottle. Rocking while nursing can cause ear infections. Just find a comfy oversized chair. Save the rocking for snuggling time with your little one. Good luck and God Bless.

I went out and bought an overstuffed microfiber recliner and I loved it! It worked very well for us. There were also nights that I had to sleep in it since it took a while to feel comfortable in a bed again. A rocking chair/glider is OK but a rocking recliner is much better!

I have had both. I couldn't nurse in our glider. I liked it for rocking and holding, but nursing it didn't have enough room for me to comfortably support the baby. I preferred to nurse in our recliner -- it was oversized, I usually nursed with either a pillow supporting the baby or a Boppy. The recliner was softer then the glider too (even with pillows on the glider) so I liked it for comfort as well. Plus the recliner I could adjust to sit in different positions.

The only warning I have -- check how far back the recliner sits. Some lean back VERY far even when the foot rest is down. When I look for another one, I will probably look for an "against the wall" recliner, so it sits like a normal comfortable chair when not reclined. If you want a rocker recliner, I would just check to make sure you don't feel like you're going to fall backwards when you learn back... and that you can sit up enough to hold the baby without having to hunch forward.

Good luck!

I had a glider. I wish I'd have gotten a rocker/recliner. It was nice at first but as my son grew, it became too difficult to get comfortable while nursing him. I just ended up sitting on our couch to do it because the glider wasn't working for me.
