Has anyone ever had a c-section at Presby Plano and can tell me what the bill came to (approximately) ????

Got my OB's estimate for the c-section in December ($ 4300), but they couldn't tell me how much the hospital would be....

Can anyone help me figure this out....just need an approximate number.....

Thanks.

Edited: I do have insurance. I kind of wanted to know what to expect at the most. Thanks everyone !!!

What can I do next?

My last csection was 18 years ago and the bill was almost $9000 for the hospital and anesthesia. How did you other moms get out so cheap?

Not sure of the hospital charges for Presby Plano but the average rate for an OB doing a c-section in the Dallas area is $1600-$1800. So if you don't have insurance--you should negotiate with your OB to get it down to that rate as that is what most insurance plans will pay your OB.

Mine was a planed C-Section in Feb of 2010 and the total bill charges were as follows:

Presbyterian for me: $12,847.89 and $9,995.10
Presbyterian for my daughter: $5,053.96

MD Pathology for me: $33.80 and $115.80
MD Pathology for my daughter: $20.80

Anesthesia: $1,403.60 and $348.00

Please take in mind this was the total billed charges. This doesn't include the contractual deduction agreed between the parties and my insurance company. The amount we owed was a lot less then these amounts.

The amount you will owe depends on your insurance deductible, and what they say are allowable charges. The best bet is like Mindy said to call the hospital and other parties to get an estimate. If you have any out of pocket expense check with them and what they can offer to help you pay for the delivery. Congrats and good luck on your upcoming delivery.

If you call the hospital and ask them for an estimate, they can give you an approximation. Keep in mind that the estimate they give you is based on a simple, no-frills C-section. If anything extra happens (e.g. need more blood, change in the type of anesthesia, baby goes to NICU), then the price will be different from what they quote you. If you don't have insurance, you can negotiate a discounted rate, but be sure to tell them that you want that. If you have insurance, your costs are set based on the negotiated rates with your insurance provider. Call the pre-admission department ###-###-#### - Inpatient, Pre-Admit).

Hope that helps!

I have had two c-sections at Presby Dallas, but the last one was 12 years ago, so not sure what it would cost now. With a c-section, they keep you for several nights, which means your baby will be in the nursery for several nights. So, you need to consider that expense as well as yours. Don't forget the bill from the anesthesiologist. With my first child, we did not have insurance and it was about $900 a day for a healthy baby to be in the nursery. My husband talked to them and we checked my son out of the nursery after the first day and kept him in my room, which saved us several thousand dollars. If you do not have insurance, I would contact the hospital and negotiate your cost.

I had mine at Presb. Allen, which is own by the same company so I'm assuming the cost would be similiar. Mine was an emergency so it might be more, but it came to around $6,000.

I actually have had three C-sections at Plano Presby. Each one was different and the costs were different, so I don't know if that's really help
ful.

This website will give you some basic costs and compare the different hospitals in the area as far as cost goes.

Hope that is helpful.

My hospital bill was around $1800 for my c-section there. They did keep me an extra night - my baby was in the NICU and it was the week of the horrible ice/snow storm here - so yours could be a little less. Great hospital though!

If you are asking because you have no insurance, call the facility and negotiate a rate. Most hospitals will work with you if you work it out ahead of time (and pay before you leave). Where I work, the cash rate is about half of what the hospital bills to insurance companies. I would do the same with your OB if you're paying for it. If you do have insurance, your portion will be a percentage of the CONTRACTED rate with that Dr./hospital, not what they acutally charge. It's all a big numbers game. Good luck!

That bill comes from the hospital, call them to inquire about their charges. Keep in mind that you need to ask for very specific information, including your hospitalization, nursery charges, drugs, the anesthesiologist, the pediatrician, etc. The doctor does not determine any charge but his own.
