Hi,

We're thinking about having our carpets taken out and having the floor underneath treated. They have some very nice styles. Has anyone had this done to their floors? Can anyone recommend someone to do this?

Thanks

Decorative concrete in Carrollton, they are north of Beltline on I-35. My husband worked there for a few years, he said he would always recommend them.

I am not sure how much you are willing to spend but one of the companies I do the books for does that type of flooring. They are Rock Hard Custom Crete. 866-304-7676. They do patterned and colored concrete. Hope that helps

With children the ages of 8,5 and 1 - they still drop things,
I noticed when I changed out all my carpet for tile, that
of course alot of things broke due to a lack of coordination.
Also it's very cold in the winter and harder to heat and hard
on your feet. Just some thoughts.

I know there are some web sites that will give you a do it yourself approach (HGTV and DIY network). I've never priced this out, but when I do see this advertised it's usually in an upscale publication. Not a good sign, good luck. B.

Hi, J..
A year ago, we had decided to do this. I did a lot of research and got a couple of quotes. However, after doing a LOT of research, including speaking to an Architect, it became clear that the process can be very unhealthy for a family, esp. if anyone in the house has respitory problems (allergies or asthma, etc.). The process of sanding the floor creates a dust cloud, and i've heard that the dust residue gets everywhere and is almost impossible to fully clean. Also, the cement itself is uncomfortable to walk on, and people have even reported back problems and joint issues. They look so great, though. However, there have been people who have complained that the color stain they picked out did not match what the final process looked like, so be careful. From what I understand, the process is okay if it is done during building, but having it done in a house that is already built is a great undertaking... so do some research. It took me about a month to decide that it wasn't for us-- so we went with a high quality laminate with a soft underlay. We are very satisfied-- it is made by Dupont and "lasts forever" (30 year warranty). It is super easy to upkeep, and it didn't cost much more than our estimates for staining the concrete.
If you do go with the concrete stain, a reputable team is Crosscrete out of Justin. You can contact Anita at
###-###-####. She will tell you about the mess it makes-- you won't be able to sleep in your home for a few days. However, nobody who does this will fully disclose the potential health issues. Good luck!

Call my husband Sean, he is a general contractor ###-###-####. There are lots of options for cement floors. You can have them stamped, stained, etc. We had cement floors in our old house and I really liked them!

We had some friends in Austin, TX who did this because they had allergies. I don't know the process they used. He did it himself as he was a commercial painter. We were skeptical about it, but they turned out beautiful. I would suggest asking at paint stores, Lowes or Home Depot if they can recommend someone who does this professionally. You can also get information from the DIY website on how to do it if you want to try yourselves. I do know the process makes an awful mess and the dust goes everywhere.

Hi J.,
A friend did this (actually two friends) and it looked great. But my 2 y/o son slipped on the floor once when we visited and really hurt himself. So I would think twice about it with a 5 & 1 y/o. Think about how they run and chase each other, push, etc. We were going to get hardwood floors for our down stairs and even the guy who owned the shop recommeded carpet instead b/c at the time my son was just learning to walk. He actually lost money with this recommendation, but we took his advise to heart. Sorry, I know you weren't asking for this advice, but just wanted to share.
