I want to find a cell phone for my son so that he can call me at night.

His mom will not allow him to use her home phone.

I want a phone that I can set up so that he can call my number only (and can only get calls from my number).

Can anyone recommend a phone?

I have Verizon right now, with my iPhone.

Thanks.

Single dad

I've also heard good things about Kajeet, but they look expensive. Firefly has more basic, less expensive phones and cheaper packages. You can also call Verizon and see what they have for controls. If you add a line for $10 a month or whatever, they can probably hook you up with a free basic phone that you can set controls on.

I know you didn't ask this question. I urge you to not do this unless his mother is OK with it. By giving him a phone you are putting him in the middle between you and his mother. You are also teaching him to fudge on court orders.

I strongly suggest that getting him a phone will backfire in the worst way. His mother will know and will have the right to go back to court. The judge will not like the way you are subverting his order and may reduce your contact even more.

Even if she doesn't go back to court you are creating more negative feelings which will make it even more difficult for you and your ex to get along. Getting along is essential for the well being of your son.

iPhone does that through the parental controls on them. The 3gs is $1 right now.

What's your parenting plan say about the calls, however?

Have things change with his mom and the judge?
If you were not allow to call him for a judge order you shouldn't try doing this.
I understand you want to talk to your son but I think it would make things worst.
Give it some time and try to either talk to his mom so she would allow him to call or for you to give him a phone or start working with a lawyer to appeal the judge order.
In the mean time try something else to keep you involve with your son, you got many good suggestions on your prior post.
Hope things get better soon, don't let you (reasonable) feelings get the best of you and do something that will compromise what you do have now.

I am thinking Disney has one that you program only certain numbers into. I am not sure what carrier it is throu. I would talk to your carrier though and see if they have one that you can do that. Lot now do have parental controls on them.

I have seen these special type phones at Target where you program in like 3 phone numbers and 9-1-1 and those are the ONLY numbers the phone can call. Not sure how you go about adding them to your plan or where you pay the bill but that is the first thing to come to mind.

Why are people calling you 'Paul' when your profile name says 'Mike'??

______EDIT___________
I just read your last ? and some of you ladies need to calm down! He says that he still has the right to call his son 4x a month...and nothing was said about whether or not there are any restrictions on how many times the child can call the father! Sheesh!

I don't know all the details but my brother has Verizon as well and he has a plan for his daughter that controls who can call in and who can call out, which sounds exactly what you are looking for. There is a certain number limit on how many different numbers you can add, but it seems like you won't be having that problem right now. I'm sure if you call Verizon they can figure it out for you! He also has the texting disabled as well.

My daughter has a phone and has been told she may only call or answer calls from numbers we have put in her phone. Family and a few friends. She got her phone when she was 6 and has always followed that rule.

I wish I had more information, but you may want to check out prepaid "GO phones." They are disposable, so you would get him one and it would last for a certain amount of minutes (they may be re-loadable -I don't know) and then you would get him another one or more minutes. I think they can be limited to certain numbers. If not, go to a Verizon or AT&T store or other cell-phone provider and just ask. I'm sure there are plans or phones that can do that. Good luck!
