well when i first got a new kitten i thought the bigger cat would be rough and mean to the litte kitten, well we have been letting the little kitten out and they been getting used to eachother. And the little kitten is the one that plays rough with the bigger cat and chases him around the house. DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE SAFE TO HAVE THEM JUST WALK AROUND THE HOUSE THEN TO HAVE THE KITTEN PUTTING UP IN A ROOM?

What can I do next?

They should both be allowed to roam the same areas, this will give them the opportunity to get aquantied with one another and create their own heirarcy amonst themselves....which is completely normal for the canine and feline species.

they should be fine. if the kitten gets too abnoxious the big cat will put it in its place. maybe put the kitten up for the night when you are going to bed. they can be hell on wheels when its dark. gl

I'm sure they'll be fine. My MIL has two cats. One very mild older one and a rambuctious crazy kitten. If the older one gets irritated enough, it'll show the kitten who's boss. :)

intresting answers....my problem never went away and it has been 2 years. The kitten who is now not a kitten is 2 yrs old and still is very agressive to my older cat. They just can not stand eachother. Litter boxes in different parts of the house and they are separated every single day we have to go out of the house. Plus when we are on vacations......it has to be that they get swithed every 12 hours so the little one is not stuck in a bedroom. It has gotten to be more then we hoped for. I doubt they will ever be friends. It makes me sad.

I would only seperate them if they are making eachother bleed (often).
I have 2 cats: one large (fixed male) & one small (fixed female). The large one attacks the smaller one. They bite eachother, but don't draw blood. However my little cat finally had enough of the large cat & she attacked him & made his paws bleed. He now has more respect for her. our cats are also declawed in the front paws.
Your cats will decided who is domanant (sp?) & everything will be fine.

God bless!

just like with kid. watch them with eachother for a few days and see how they get along. after about a week most cats learn to get along or stay out of eachothers way. after a while most become best friends and work together to torture you, just like kids. Let them both run around and test the waters.

I would not keep them together just yet. Normally it should take several weeks to introduce completely. I think the kitten will be fine but I would be worried about acclimating your older cat. If you don't slowly integrate the kitten things may be fine but you also may have to deal with issues such as inappropriate urination, defecation, or other stress related issues cats may exhibit.

Just like with humans, if you treat them differently, they will pick up on it and treat each other differently. You may create a situation where none exists. Just treat them the same. If one has free reign of the house, then let both of them have free reign of the house. Cats are smart. They will work it out.

yes you should let them be together and do whatever they are going to do. If it really gets out of hand then you should separate them, but when he gets tired of it, the big cat will let him know who's boss then the "pecking order" will be drawn.

let them run loose together. They will either become friends or learn to tolerate each other. If the big cat gets annoyed with the kitten, he will put it in it's place. Cats are pretty social and in the same household usually become friends.
