I love to cook as well. When I have a special occasion to cook for - I go on to Food Network website and see what they have.

We're getting my son baptized and are not decorating other than maybe some light blue napkins and balloons and table cloths. Since it's a communion - maybe get white napkins, plates, cups, balloons, streamers, etc. I do no think you have to go overboard!

I am having my daughter's 1st communion with a friend and her son's together. My mom is making cross cakes (I have a cross cake pan). We are doing finger sandwiches, potato salad, pasta salad, fruit and summer foods like that. Then the kids can swim in the pool afterward. I have flag streamers with 1st communion on it (my mom's friend owns a religious store) and some cake and napkins with the 1st communion on it. Otherwise we are using blue/pink tablecloths and blue/pink napkins. Not going overboard as the party should only be a few hours. Maybe you can get a nice picture frame and have the guests sign it and frame it later? Just a thought. Good luck and congrats to him!

White usually comes to mind... We did beautiful white and pastel colors for decorations for my son's baptism. I used light blue Hydrangea flowers to give color and I found a nice Party store on Bruce B Downs that had decorations white with gray crosses. They had individual mint packs with crosses on them, balloons and plates and napkins with the same theme. As party favors, I found the prayer for my son's saint (his name is Gabriel) and a small hand-made glass angel found in a Christian store also on Bruce B Downs. Everyone thought it was very special. Crosses are great keepsakes, prayer books or even the story of the communion. Not a lot of decoration is needed but keeping with white for the symbol of purity and holyness is always nice. A nice touch is to have a guest book and have everyone jot their name and also a spiritual wish or short prayer for the child as they walk in the party. Let the child lead in prayer or saying Grace for the meal and little touches like that.

Have fun and may your friend's family enjoy this joyous occassion.
