Cars That Fit 3 Car Seats

We recently had our 3rd and are in need of a replacement for one of our cars. We already have a mini van, which we use most of the time. We need to replace our 2nd car soon, and need to fit 3 car seats. It won't be used much, so it doesn't have to be comfy. Our oldest could be in a booster, but she is border line. I would like to leave her in a full size (radian). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

We have a Camry, and it fits three, though the Radian only works with our middle seat belt for some reason. I've had a lot of trouble installing the Radian in different positions in both our cars. I would say try the carseats you'll be using in the car before buying the car. It's really the only way to make sure, especially since even if the seat is wide enough to accomodate three, some seatbelts don't work well with certain car seats. Good luck.

I had to take three kids. Two in toddler car seats - I prefer it has the back so I don't use the booster seat - and a 1 year old in a car seat as well. I went online and looked at rental cars that stated we could fit 3 adults in the back seat. We didn't end up getting the rental but that may help you narrow down the type of cars to bother looking at.

Take the car seats out and try them out. That is the ONLY way to do it. Each seat is so different. Measuring doesn't work, due to the fact that most "wing out" and will not be the same on the actual seat. They will touch shoulder level and prevent a fit.
The salesman will just have to put up with it!!

Hi S., In the late 90's we had a Camry and were able to fit 3 car seats in very comfortably. In 2003, we traded it in for a BMW 5 series, and you can jam 3 car seats in but it is a lot of work. The BMW dealer told us that the 5 series was the same size inside as the Camry we had, but he was wrong! The BMW is just a bit narrower, and the problem was with the car seats. If I had to go through that again, I would bring all 3 car seats with me to physically try putting in the car I was seriously considering purchasing -- that's the only sure way to tell. Hope this helps. E. Taft ____@____.com

Check out the website motherproof.com
I saw it mentioned on another mom's blog, that
it was helpful for her to figure out what car to purchase.

I did months of research on this very subject! The only seats that will work for you are the Sunshine Radians. You can get these that fit up to 60 or 80 lbs. They are great seats- we love ours and have lent them out to many friends in exactly this same situation as you. They all ordered a pair of their own!
You should be able to fit a radian on each side and an infant seat in the center. Then when your infant is older- you can add a third Radian.
I bought the higher weight capacity seats. This way I won't have to buy a booster for a long time and my girls will be safer in 5-point seat longer.
This way you don't have to be picky about what kind of car you purchase- any will work!
Good luck!
