It was a bit too long and involved for my three year old. He lost interest somewhere in there, and so did I. It wasn't inappropriate, just too James Bondish for littlies.
My 2 year old LOVES Cars. He is seriously obsessed with the movie and knows all of the characters names by heart. B/c I felt he was too young to sit still in the theater, I haven't taken him to see Cars 2 yet but I bought him the storybooks and he already knows the characters in the sequel as well! I was going to order it on dvd when it comes out but I just read a bunch of reviews saying it's really violent and not appropriate for kids. I must admit that I had some qualms with all the guns and shooting but I thought Pixar would have made it age appropriate... have you seen it? Did you feel it was inappropriate/scary/bad influence?? Thanks!

I took my 9 year old stepson and 5, 4 & 2 year old sons to see it. They all enjoyed it and I didn't find it violent. BUT, aside from explicit sexual content/absolute blood & gore/horror that would cause nightmares, I don't censor what my kids watch. While it wasn't as good as the first movie, I thought it was decent for a sequel. We will be buying it on DVD when it comes out.
I took my 2 year old to see the movie and everything went over her head. I didn't know much about the movie when we went and I would of been more concerned about the violence and the death in the movie if she was older. I won't buy it because I don't want her to watch it repeatedly and she is okay just watching the first one.
Im not a real fan of censoring. censoring everyday speak and ideas makes things taboo and obsessions. I censor explicit sexual content and gore but most of the other stuff i allow them to witness.. I give them their own radar of right and wrong, and a good role model to take their initiative from.
That being said, cars 2 was so appropriate in my opinion, perfect for kids. much more tame than the stuff you can get on non-cable t.v. programming these days.
My DD is 5 & while she enjoyed it, DH & I were a bit disappointed. It has no tie in with the first movie, the theme (spies) is much more mature than the first movie, and there is violence (albeit cartoon violence, but still) in this one, while the first one had nothing of the sort. It was way too long, also. I'd think a 2 year old would have a hard time understand the story, and sitting through the whole thing.
Totally not appropriate for a two year old. He'd probably have nightmares and why expose him to violence this early? And yeah, Pixar DID make it age appropriate... For 8-10 year olds. Just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it's meant for young kids. If you are ever confused about age appropriate movies, check out Common Sense Media - they rate movies for kids. You can google and get their website.
So sorry I took my 2 year old, it was violent and so different from Cars :(( Books are different than onscreen, stick with books on this one, as another mama suggested.
My 6 and 7 year old were bored to death with Cars 2 and I felt like it was a waste of money in the theater. I wouldn't take a 2 year old to see it... it's totally not age appropriate if you ask me. But I don't think that most movies are necessary for a 2 year old, to be honest. There's plenty of time for Tv/movie exposure. I'd stick with the books.
My 2 year old loved it! I don't think it's violent at all. There are cartoon shootouts from bad guys, which I don't think is any big deal.
It wasn't that bad. I thought it was boring really and I too was unhappy that it was not anything like the original.
I would not recommend it for a 2 year old. I took my 3 year old thinking it would be more like the original Cars but was sad to find that not to be the case and thought it was too much for age 3.
I've read the reviews and took my kids last weekend anyway to see it. I thought that it was ok for little ones. Note there were a couple places slightly scary but It those spots were over fast. I thought the movie was cute. My 3 yr old liked it.
My 4 and 7 year olds loved it. I think the spy stuff went right over the 4's head.
I was surprised by the chasing and fights and gunfire. But they're cars. They don't bleed.
My 4 year old was totally freaked out by Toy Story 3, but not bothered by this.
I don't think it was a bad influence, but for me it was boring. I liked the first one better. My 2.5 y/o just enjoyed the racing parts, then lost interest during all the other parts and colored sort of half paying attention. I can tell you she wasn't scared in the least.
=)
Very few movies are made appropriate for 2 yr. olds. Apparently movie makers don't care about things being appropriate, otherwise they would leave out all the innuendos, potty talk, and other jokes, not to mention mild curse words. Most movies are made for older kids, and personally, i think they are still inappropriate for that age group.
that being said, i have an easier time with things happening that are not real, as opposed to "real people." for example, violence from a sea witch? easy to explain as make believe. a man standing over snow white with a knife...inappropriate. i watched cars 2, and did think it was violent, but they are talking cars, so it doesn't really seem like violence?
in the end, it is your job to protect your child. he has many years to see these movies. if you have qualms, i think you know your answer!
We liked it. My three year old loved it as well as my 6 year old. I like some of the other moms below don't do a lot of censoring (sex, gore and the like).
I would suggest wait until it comes out to Redbox, rent it, watch it without your 2 year old and make your own decision. If you watch it without him you can determine if it is appropriate.
save your $ and wait for the dvd
They say "idiot" a million times too. I took my girls to see it and it did not influence them negatively, but I was not really impressed either. The first one was much better in my opinion.
probably not for a 2yr old but it really depends on your style. I would buy it anyways then view it alone (worth it) and then decide.
