I get lots of the "free" greeting cards in the mail from various organizations actually soliciting for donations for their cause, Habitat for Humanity, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, local Children's Hospital, etc.. Some are actually pretty nice..get well, birthday, etc. I've used a few but my question is..do you always look on the back for the Hallmark name? Would it matter to you if you got one of these cards that instead have the name of the charity? Would you think I was super-cheap if I gave one to you? I just hate to see these cards go to waste, but I don't want to offend someone who might think I didn't actually spend money on them. (I do send in a cash donation, sometimes...but not always.)
This sort of made me sad to read this. I really hope we have not gotten to the point where we actually *care* if we are getting a name brand card or not. I personally don't like to get cards at all. Everyone I know, knows this about me. I think it's a HUGE waste of money unless it's for a wedding or baby or something you might actually KEEP. I also buy my cards at Dollar Tree. I always feel like people just glance at it and then throw it away. More times than not, if I buy a gift bag, I just write TO and FROM on the little tag and leave it at that. I've never heard anyone complain. lol

I don't think I have ever looked at the back of a card. Do people really do that? I mean to expect an overpriced, certain brand card?
How pretentious!!!
For what it's worth, I can't stand Hallmark and their random making up of holidays and attempting to make people feel obligated to buy for them. I refuse to buy from them, so screw it, if someone thinks my card isn't good enough!!

No, I don't look to see who made the card. People actually do that?
It is the thought, not which company that made it, that counts. People who look to see who made it? Sorry - not someone I would hang around.

It has never even crossed my mind to turn a card over to check the brand. If someone got offended because I didn't get them a "real" card, then I wouldn't want to send them one anyways. I use the freebies from the mail when I think they are cute and appropriate, that's what they are for!

I never look.
My H's dad hated cards and thought they were a waste of money. So for the last few birthdays we sent him the money we would have used for a card and wrote, Happy Birthday on the envelope! He loved it. Told everyone about it!
Actually, I would like your card better. The other day I picked up a plate at Target that supports Feeding America. It wasn't as pretty as the others but it spoke to me. I like supporting causes and I hope the receiver of the plate full of muffins appreciated the same cause.

Whenever I get a handwritten letter or card, I'm just thrilled that someone was thinking of me!!!! I don't care what kind of card it is or if it's written on scrap paper!
Doubtful that anyone would care about the type of card.
Send those cards and make someone's day!

Checking the back of a card for who made it is like walking up to a friend and pulling back their shirt to check the label. It's silly, and rude. Anyone who does it doesn't deserve to receive a card from you.
Personally I never send cards because of the cost. I always get a blank piece of paper, some of my daughter's art supplies and write one by hand. It costs a fraction of a cent for the paper plus the price of a stamp. Hallmark cards are ridiculously priced.

Good grief, if someone didn't like a card I got because it wasn't halmark, I'd laugh in their face. OK, maybe not, but I'd seriously question their judgement for caring about who made the card.
I LIVE for the dollar store - 2 for $1 - woohoo! I hate spending $3-4 on a piece of cardboard with pictures on it. It's what the card says, not who made it. A card from a charity says you'd rather give your money to a charity than a mega-million dollar company. And even if you don't "pay" for the charity cards, their name is being seen by the people you send them to, so you're spreading the word about the charity by sending the card.

I only look at the back of the card to see if there is additional artwork or something written on the back. I probably see who makes it but never really care. We buy a bunch of our cards from places like Target or Toys R Us at the same time we buy the gift and wrapping. Have no clue if they are Hallmark or not.
I wouldn't care if the name of the charity was on the back. I'd think it's pretty cool myself.

I don't look at the backs of cards I receive. I love getting cards and other real mail.
Anyone ill-bred enough to not only notice but actually comment upon it? Stop sending cards and distance yourself from that person.

I have never looked on the back for the Hallmark name. Ever. Use them without guilt.
My own preference is Blue Mountain greeting cards. They're always very pretty and have lovely text. But if I see a card I like, regardless the brand, I'll pick it up.

I'd prefer to get cards from worthy organizations. Go for it. If someone gets offended, that's their problem. It's the thought that counts ... always. Call me crazy, but I check the back of cards only for the "Made in ____" line. I only buy ones made in the USA. I don't want to pay $4 for a card made in China when there are so many made here.

I don't think I have ever looked at the back of a card. And I rarely buy Hallmark because the Hallmark stores in our area are not near where I typically shop and I think they are over priced. I use the cards I get from charities (even though it irks me that they are spending money to send me free stuff instead of using the money to actually do something good within the charity). My friends and family are just surprised to even be getting an actual card in the mail from this extremely unorganized mama.

Oh, wait... That's the person who expects only name brand cards. ;) Lol.
Heck, I usually do home-made cards, on the very rare instance I send them. Maybe I should make my own logo for the back of them. :)

I never buy Hallmark any more due to the exorbitant cost.

I have not bought a Hallmark card in decades. I think it's a racket to pay $5-6 dollars for a piece of paper with a picture and some (often sappy) words when I can make one myself, buy an independent artist made card or print a picture or other meaningful image off the computer.
Use those cards you have. I don't think there are many people out there who would judge you and if they do who cares they are fools anyway!

It sounds like you are a victim of the "marketing machine".
Hallmark used to run those commercials about seeing their name on the back - apparently they were very successful! I teach marketing at a college..and they certainly accomplished their goal of making everyone think that Hallmark is the gold standard.
I buy my cards at the dollar store (2 for $1). When I see how much other stores charge for a card that is hastily read and thrown out, it's a total waste of money. I've seen cards that cost between $3-4...it's crazy!!

Hallmark all the way! We make a game out of it at weddings/birthdays/whatever. (But then, more than one of our family are employed at Hallmark...so.) We don't think worse of people who don't buy Hallmark, my Grandma, for example, only shops at Target and they don't sell Hallmark. But we do prefer it.

Since my homemade cards cost pennies people must think I am really cheap😊. I can not imagine anyone looking on the back of a card to check the brand name although I guess I am kind of judgmental because I think it is foolish to spend $5+ on a card.

Honestly, from my heart, when I receive a card from someone, I just feel appreciated and it doesn't matter at all if the card was bought at Hallmark, somewhere else, or online. Home-made cards are absolutely much more appreciated from me and my family, but I do understand that not everyone else is good at making home-cards or have the time to make them, so.....I just love getting cards, real cards though... (I don't like virtual ones).
