Canister Vacuum - Chicago,IL

I need a new vacuum. A few requirements: it has to be a canister, and I want separate heads for carpet and hardwood. I also like an electric attachment for couches/ stairs. I usually buy a kenmore, but I'm sick of buying a new one every 4-5 years. I keep thinking there has to be something as good that is built better.

I know a lot of people who have Dyson's.

My mom had a Kirby - she has had one since the 1970's. They are expensive and have a great warranty. It has a shampoo attachment, hose, hardwood, blind cleaner, etc. I think the one my dad bought her was 4 or 5 years ago. And it replaced one that was 20 years old...

I love my Dyson! I got one last year after having nothing but Kenmores before that. It is worth every penny! We have 4 cats. What sold me was the day we vacuumed off their favorite cat tower. With the old vacuum it always still looked grungy with embedded cat fur no matter how hard we tried. First time taking the new Dyson to it you could see the original creamy beige color it started new as! It is super light weight and so easy to navigate which is very important in our house. I don't hate vacuuming nearly like I did with my old vacuums!
We got ours on super sale from Amazon, it was a lightening deal around Black Friday. Costco has some great prices on them as well.

Love my Dyson. It doesn't have a separate head for carpet and hardwood, I just turn off the rotators when I'm on my hardwood and it does great. I haven't seen in, but my husband says there is a Dyson that has a mop feature on the back of the vacuum for hardwoods. So it vacuums in the front and mops at the same time. I would love it, but since my dyson is only 5 years old, I'd be surprised if I get another one anytime soon. 5 years ago when my husband shopped around for one, he got his best deal at Macys.

I've had my Dyson for about 8 years now. Still works like it did Day 1.
If it pooped out tomorrow, I'd buy another immediately.
Probably the Ball.

I'm anti Dyson because my mom had a very pricey one and hated it.

I have Oreck upright top of the line and a small canister came with it. I love that canister and I use it daily as well as my upright!

I just bought one that I love! It's a Hoover Air. Although it doesn't have a removable canister, it works on carpet and wood floors, has a long arm that pulls out with a crevis and brush attachment for baseboards, stairs, blinds, dusting and furniture, great swivel head too. When I bought it, the manager at Kohl's said Bissell and Hoover make the best vaccumes. It's light weight, easy to use. I was looking for one with the removable canister, but glad I ended up with this one.

I'm not sure what a canister is. I've had my Miele for 15 years, it has all the attachments and it gets pretty abused by our cleaning lady. Household of 5 ppl plus dogs and cats - it does a great job and was an amazing investment.
