he is stuck at the red brick wall and can't get past it. I guess it's the CAVE ENTERANCE and it's when Dumbledore is searching for the locket but you have to use your wand to light up a circle, but we can only get the wand to light up half of the circle and can't complete the arc.
It's a regular DS not 3D not PS or anything, I've been trying to find cheats on line just so he can figure this part out but I don't really know if i'm looking in the right place and haven't had much luck, one site said that this was almost a glitch in the game for the regular DS and just to wiggle the plus arrow pad.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Your kid needs to learn on how to figure this out him self.Its just a game.he can do it.
Google "harry potter 5-7 half blood prince walkthrough".
Have him try doing a search on Google or Youtube. My friend has a son that does this for games when he gets stuck.
How old is your son?
My son is 6, and he will "research" it himself.
I "help" him, but he mostly does it himself. He even types in the search words himself, and he looks for tutorials on his games. Which is Xbox Lego games. And he has the Harry Potter one and the others.
OR, go to a GameStop store or something, and ask them.
They know all kinds of stuff about the games.
When we go there, my kids will ask the employees themselves.
Its good practice for them to ask questions at stores.
