Can You Freeze Canned Beans?

Hi Moms -

After making dinner tonight, I have half a can of garbanzo beans left that I did not need for the recipe. I don't think I'll be using them anytime in the next few days/week. Is it ok to freeze them? If so, should I do it in the liquid they came in, or without liquid? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Yes you can freeze them, I'd do it in a little liquid, but you wouldn't have to. My mom's motto was "try to freeze it-if it doesn't work, you can always throw it out later!" ;)

Half a can? Oh my gosh! Why don't you just eat them?
For a snack, my son will have a can of garbanzo beans with some Italian dressing on them.
Here's an idea, get another can (or two) and make some hummus.
Delicious!!!

They wouldn't last long enough in my house to worry about freezing them.

Best wishes.

I'd think they'd be a weird texture. Why don't you put them on top of a salad?

You should try them roasted. Blot them dry, season them, place on oiled cookie sheet and cook at 400 for 30 - 45 minutes. They come out crunchy, my girls call them nuts.

I freeze everything. They may not be as good when you thaw them but would be great for a soup or similar type dish.

Sure, why not? I would probably freeze them in the liquid, because canned veggies tend to taste better if they are heated in their own juices.

They're really yummy thrown on top of a salad. It's a good way to use them up in the next day or so.
My kids and I like to eat them straight out of the can too ;)
