Can we all agree that when the election is over so is the bashing and hating on members just because they are different?

I love politics but some of the members on the site, include myself at times, get ruthless.

LOL Cheryl however much I love your political views you totally turned a peace treaty into a war declaration. lol. Still love ya though

AV- kinda my thoughts but I figured that it would be best to put this post as nicely as possible. I am so done with politics after election day!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

One and done- this post is not to bash other peoples views but to STOP IT. Thank you for your input but if you could please change your post to fit my question and not appoint your views I would appreciate it. Either that or put dots.

Good thing happened, I've been inundated with life/school stuff so I've been mostly missing in action from the mamapedia political debates. Phew. Bullet well dodged!

Funny - I don't HATE other for their opinions. I just HATE that people don't THINK for themselves. How's that?

No matter who wins - the blood is already in the water.
Obama supporters will be LIVID and have already stated they will riot in the streets should he lose (so much for being the party of tolerance, eh?)

Romney supporters will wonder who cheated. Seriously. There is so much voter fraud that it's not even laughable. People complain that VOTER ID is infringement...however...unions (who are liberal backed) DEMAND that a photo ID be presented for voting...so what's wrong with it for a NATIONAL election?

When Romney wins - the Obama supporters will gauge him any chance they get - especially the liberal media - and showcase any error or problem - unlike what they have done for Obama and Benghazi....where it has been virtually swept under the rug...Hillary fell on her sword for that and she should NOT have had to. A General (Ham) was told to STAND DOWN when he went to help. ONLY TWO PEOPLE IN THE U.S. CAN LEGALLY TELL A GENERAL TO STAND DOWN: The President and the Secretary of Defense. So why would EITHER one of those tell a General to stand down and NOT HELP DYING AMERICANS????? Something stinks in Denmark, in my opinion.....

I don't think it will get any better. It might just get worse. If Obama gets re-elected (God FORBID! Again, my opinion) - we will be spent further into oblivion and unemployment will go higher....

I agree with most people who say they can't change political views.

I love ya Cheryl O, and on most things we agree, but I don't see how when people disagree with you they, "aren't thinking for themselves". We all think for ourselves, we all make choices on the information we receive, then make the choice on how to perceive it.

Your side lies, my side lies. For every article or study there is, there is another article or study disproving it. It's all very frustrating.

You see a country deep in debt, so do I. I see taxing the upper 1% percent more AS WELL as doing deep budget cuts. Most hard leaning righters can't see that at all. They see nothing past, NO MORE TAXES.

You say Romey will be scrutinized under the liberal media for every little thing that he does. What do you call what is happening to President Obama? The conservative media has been SO fair to him. (deep sarcasm).

But, I don't see the left side going so far as too stonewall everything Romney puts forth and REFUSING to work with him like I have seen happening with President Obama. I could be wrong. I sure don't want Romney and his crazy counter part in office, but all I can do is cast my vote and hope it counts. :)

There's a video going around of a 4ish yr old crying about the election. Yeah. I just want the election to be done so this nastiness will hopefully be put aside. I don't love politics. Sometimes my choice wins and sometimes not but I can put on my big girl panties and deal with it. I hope everyone here can, too.

I personally enjoy the political banter on here. I like when people choose to stick to facts and state their beliefs/views. I get turned off when the bashing takes place and tend to scan to others that are having a thoughtful and provoking conversation..

I like to see political signs in yards because it shows people are involved and learning about politics. But I don't like when some choose to trespass on private property and steal signs..all Romney signs are gone in my neighborhood but all the Obama signs are still standing. Hmmmm??

I like to hear that at my son's school they are holding mock political debates and a mock election. I don't like when my son gets harassed by underage Obama supporters. I especially don't like when one in particular threatened my son. He told my son that on Halloween he will dress up like Obama and my son should dress up like Romney so then he can "Beat the fu@%ing sh*t out" of my son. The Obama supporter also reached down while my son was sitting and got him in a choke hold. My son is such a pacifist and simply enjoys political debate...a very kind, compassionate soul. And he even forgives the kid and feels sorry for him. Luckily there were swift consequences for this other young man harassing, threatening and choking my son. The school also immediately called a school assembly about bullying. Hallelujah!! It is day 4 and he is leaving my son alone now.

Tensions are high. We need to keep ourselves in check because it will sometimes trickle down to our kids and they will act out at school...or cry on some pathetic YOUTUBE video a mom posted. A 4 year old should not know so much about politics that she is distraught and crying.

I totally agree with you that we should reign in the venom. Talk on here as if you are physically in the same room with the person, not hiding behind a screen...and hopefully you would reconsider some of the snakiness and then use more compassion.

Let's all pray for peace on Election Day no matter who wins. Because if we all start acting like the boy in my son's class then NO ONE wins.

It's about as easy as getting two people to agree what pizza toppings are best - which is fairly impossible.
I like a traditional crust (none of the cardboard like thin crust stuff), cheese, extra cheese, Italian Sausage, mushrooms and onions.
Sometimes I like a good White pizza too - with lots of garlic!

Honestly, I'm tired of hearing people call spirited discourse (in which FACTS are exchanged) "hating". It's not, and yet, that is all I hear. People can't debate anymore w/out being accused of being "hateful". If someone disagrees w/someone else, they're automatically written off as (a) ____________ (closed minded, bigot, hater, etc). It's ridiculous and immature - we're different!! So what? In all of our touting tolerance and acceptance of all, we're more polarized than ever.

I'm very engaged politically and enjoy debating, even w/people who don't agree with me, because it's stimulating and educational. You have to know where others are coming from in order to really formulate your own worldview. Problem is, our culture today can pick and choose their reality / news sources / circle of friends based on their similarities, so when there's a different view, it's glaring and can seem confrontational.

The only "ruthlessness" I have seen (and I still think that word is way too strong) has been directed at parties in general and out of frustration with the system. I have never seen one of the moms here "bash", "insult", or "hate" on another by calling her a name or attacking her personally. I have read (and been on the receiving end of) some condescending attitude, but I don't consider that hate.

Not everyone has the stomach to go head to head with people they disagree with. That's fine, but spirited, educated discourse is not hate - our society has gotten WAY too thin-skinned.

I have seen the name calling, the hatefulness too.

Calling the other political party "stupid, ignorant, etc"...I'm tired of this as well. I don't answer the political questions because I don't really believe that all of us here can really have a conversation about it without it becoming an us vs them.

However, it happens all the time during a major election year...I don't think it will ever stop.

I usually disregard the political posts because I have strong political views and if I post I will waste my time thinking and composing a message to others whose minds you will not change, or even consider a different perspective, in most cases.

I'm guilty too - I will never consider leaning right, no matter how eloquently written a reply is. I'm a progressive liberal through and through and I have strong conviction of my beliefs. Conservatives will not change them. Just as I will not change the conservatives point of view to lean left.

If you don't want to bash someone, and don't want to be bashed, don't reply to the posts. If the political posts are not replied to, then they will not continue. If they are replied to, then it will only be the folks who want to share and don't mind being ripped apart for their differences.

I say don't participate. Problem solved :)

I actually thought Cheryl's response was spot on. We all have passion about this topic or we wouldn't be responding to it. I try very hard to not respond nasty. I don't take anyone serious when they do and I would expect the same if I responded the same.

My answer is I will if everyone else will. Gee that's mature!!! =)

I try, try being the operative word, to keep my answer fact based. Not so much because I am a kind person, though I might be, but because personal attacks lose debates.

Some days.....wrong day, wrong time, response guilt.

The problem with me saying yeah, I will play nice is a know damn well if they go postal, I will jump right in with that little voice lagging wayyyyyy behind.

I don't suppose I will play nice if not provoked would work? :-/

I don't consider it bashing someone's politics when told to vote the way they want to vote, but to understand that our presidents can't be everything to every person. (Especially when being told in the same breath what a beautiful person she is, and rooting for her to find a career she likes. Being a vitual cheerleader, for heaven's sake.)

Some people are just plain negative, negative.

That video of the little girl crying because she is tired of Obama and Romney is something else. Her mom ought to shut off the TV for that little girl and give her some peace. I'll be so happy when the election is over too, Mom!

I'm so sick of seeing the questions about politics on here. It really isn't the place IMO. I'm pretty sure there is an Obamapedia or Romneypedia out there for some of these mamas. If not I bet with all that steam they can create one.
