Can Someone Suggest a Pediatrician That Doesn't Push Vaccinations in Fort Worth?

I've lived in Fort Worth for 4 years, I had a baby about 7 months ago and have decided not to vaccinate. My pediatrician gives me a speech everytime I bring my daughter in. At my last visit, she straight out told me that "I'm making a horrible decision not to vaccinate". I asked her about vaccinations and the reason Hep B is given to babies - seeing that it's a sexually or drug related disease, she said "it's merely an opportunity". I'm just really frustrated, I'd like to find a doctor that is willing to let me make the decision for my child and not berate me every single time I go to her!!!

I do mean Hep B ---- http://www.hepb.org/hepb/transmission.htm

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I fully understand the risk vs. reward of vaccinations and diseases. I also understand that we don't see some of these diseases in this country anymore because of these vaccinations. However, I believe that a parent has the right to make that decision for their child. They should be given the choice to vaccinate or not. With anything there are risks! I personally know 3 children that were completely healthy active children, but once they were given 7 shots in one visit SOMETHING CHANGED!!! They were never the same. Usually I would agree that the FDA, the CDC, Pediatriac Assoc. all have our best interests at hand but I know that A LOT OF MONEY IS INVOLVED with medicine and vaccinations. How many times have we seen a medication work "miracles" only to fail years later causing severe problems for people?

I know that we do not see polio any more and chicken pox and all because we get children shots. Our ancestors did not live as long with so many diseases. Those that do not get those shots in my opinion risk not only their children but others around them. I grew up with a religion not getting shots then when I was pg was exposed to measles from a child which put me my new born at risk. So I would go to doctors and do what they say. I got shots as an adult. I had a friend who had polio and she has to limp as one leg is really skinny. I feel that others protect their children then others risk. It is your choice but I would not want that risk. G. W

I hope you found someone, but if not, don't give up hope. We take our children to one of only two practices in the area that will even treat unvaccinated children - the others make it a policy not to take them. I personally don't like it when parents choose not to vaccinate in most cases, but I agree that it is your right as a parent, and that Big Pharma is a pretty scary influence in our country (and around the world). My son IS vaccinated, but is on an alternative schedule where certain unnecessary vaccines (in my mind, such as the HepB, Chicken Pox, etc.) won't be given until he is older. And I still have put up with a lecture every time I take him into the office. I guess I consider it a trade off because my pediatrician is otherwise very good and knowledgeable, and at least she will see and treat my son, unlike many others in the area. But I know how exhausting it is to know that you're going to have a show-down every time you go into the office - it doesn't change my mind. It just makes me resent the pediatrician. Good luck.

Hey H.!
I decided not to vaccinate my 2 children as well. My children are 6 and 3( healthy, active, very smart) and so far its the best decision I have ever made in my entire life. And dont let anyone pressure you into doing things their way. I finally found a very loving ,caring and very knowledgeable doctor that is located in Mansfield. Her name is Dr Kerstin Archer ( just google her).

Please read this quote, I found it as I was doing some research.

"[2010 June] The Marvellous Health of Unvaccinated Children by Françoise Berthoud, MD [medical doctor, paediatrician] As a concerned, compassionate and considerate paediatrician, I can only arrive at one conclusion. Unvaccinated children have by far the best chance of enjoying marvellous health. Any vaccination at all works to cripple the chances of this end."

Wish you all the best in your Journey!

Hep B is actually transmitted through an exchange of bodily fluids, that includes saliva from bites..you might be thinking of Hep C

Oh wow..I am so sorry that you got such negative responses from some of these moms. You asked a question for help and if they dont have it..why answer!
ON THAT NOTE...I have heard that Dr McGeHee is good. Also Dr Pierre Robert in Grapevine is great about talking through your vaccination preferences and respecting your wishes.
Dr Sharon Dennis in Arlington and also you might check out Dr Mark Jones or DR Ricardo Tan in Ft Worth.
Hope this helps. Not everyone has to agree with our choices...but thats why they are OUR choices! Best of luck to you!

You are indeed making a horrible decision, not just for your child but to any immune compromised person your child comes in contact with.

I have been in pediatrics for almost 10 years and have come across parents in your situation a lot.
In defense for the doctor, you have to realize that their job is to take care of your child and make sure they live a healthy life. Most pediatricians are passionate about their jobs and love each of the children they take care of.
They go through years of school and experience seeing deaths from all sorts of things, including these diseases. It may be rare, but that is because of all of the parents vaccinating. If we stop vaccinating, the diseases will return and your child will be at high risk.
The doctor is probably angry when this topic comes up because the benefits of vaccines outweigh the risks. She is probabably thinking just as the nurses do "why on earth would you take a chance of risking your childs life with one of these terrible diseases".
Vaccines have been cleared in all Autism cases. The preservative that they were linking to is no longer in the vaccines.
Most kids do not show signs of autism until toddler years because that is when they are starting to talk and socialize. With that being said, they may have been born with it, but you do not notice until they are maturing verbally and socially (which is the toddler years).
From a caregiver in ped's, I have been able to tell when something is not "right' about a child from 2 months of age and later the are diagnosed with autism. They showed signs BEFORE the MMR vaccine.
I am not hating on you, just recommending you really think about this.
Private Practice had a great episode about vaccines a while back and I recommend parents in your position watch it. They usually base their episodes on real life issues or events.
Good luck on your search.

I have the same problem, and I am just doing a modified vaccination schedule! The dr I go to currently is really rude and unprofessional about it so I am in the process of switching. I have heard good things about Stephanie Gold at Kids Doc in Arlington, at Matlock and Arkansas. I don't know if she is ok with no vaccinations at all but she is supportive of a modified schedule so you may want to just ask. I will meet with her next week, do you want me to let you know how she responds?
