My son is looking at me like I'm nuts as I just sit here giggling. It's a sympathy giggle. The kind usually followed by hugs and strong drinks.
The (musical) recorder came home from school today. Enough said? LOL

Actually, I enjoyed it....... I also play recorder (I have an Alto, Soprano, and Tenor Recorder...... my sister has an Alto and a Sopranino recorder). My sister and I, and then later my hubby and I, all played recorders together... there is some really great music for recorder!
So... it was my chance to really help the kids with their recorder practice, and play along with them!
Just hide the damn thing and "find" it in the morning. No amount of practice will make it sound good anyway. I personally think the teachers only send them home to make the parents suffer with them.
awe i can only imagine! you poor thing... hmmm can we say tylenol (or maybe vicodin!) and ear plugs lol.
Oh yeah! I do feel sorry for you. Tomorrow's errand might need to be: aspirin, wine, chocolate and earplugs!
Just by reading your post I started humming "hot cross buns" in my head. Good luck. My daughter brought her's home a few years ago and my younger son had to have one too. I got double hit! LOL
You have my sympathy.
My kids have had that.
And the Ukelele.
;)
Gawd, I have had an awful day.... I could use some sympathy too.
Recorder noise, does not seem too bad.
;)
But I can relate to you.
LOL
LOL!!!
Don't worry, the novelty wears off pretty quickly. In the mean time open up a bottle of wine, it dulls the senses :)
I actually liked it. My son would play it through his nose!
He moved on to drums!!
Oh mama, I feel your pain. I thought it was so cute when she brought it home, for maybe 5 seconds, and then she started playing it. Whew. It only made me feel better when I imagined the teacher having to listen to the whole class! (but not a whole lot of sympathy for her because she's the one who sent them home!) :-)
Oh you poor thing!!!
just wait until H.S. Band....OMG, our summer this year will revolve around Band Trip to Florida in June. In July we have 2 weeks + of Band Camp, where the kids put in full days of marching in the heat. School starts the 2nd week of August, & Band begins one hour before school + one evening each week. Oh, & then there's the performances for 1/2time + the competitions on the wkends. Oh, Oh, + the section rehearsals!
BUT I will say: my son is happy & thriving. He's the only freshman to make All District Concert Band.....& we are very proud of him. It all started with the recorder!
Sorry, no sympathy here! The recorder can lead to great things!
Come on, say it, "shut up, S."! LOL.....
I didn't know they still do those! wow I'm cringing just thinking about it!! Good luck!! haha
Ugh....my stepson got his this year. Luckily, he practices at his mom's! :) Buy some earplugs.
lol! 2 rules .... no playing it in the car and not in the house. either outside or in your room with the door shut! (lol) i do let her play for me every day though, just not ALL day every day!
I'll never forget the day my sister came home with a tuba!! Could be worse, but sympathy none the less. That highest note...ugh that one is painful!!!
LOL! My son did that last year, along w/ my daughter playing the saxophone and my son learning trumpet! No one plays any musical instruments now (makes me kinda sad) but those recorders drove me nuts too...and my son found his the other day cleaning his room and started blowing! We stopped that real quick. Like another mom said, in own room, door closed or downstairs, door closed!!! (just turn the volume up on your tv or stereo! )
Three words: Listen For Improvement.
And be glad it's a recorder. It could be worse.
Sympathy freely given. My husband's aunt got our girls recorders. They quickly became "outside" toys. Sorry, neighbors.
Good luck with that! My daughter moved on to the trumpet. Not quite as annoying as the recorder was!
When my son began learning clarinet, the first few weeks was practice with just the mouth piece.
We were warned by the band leader to expect sounds like cat screeching and that family pets (and family members) might want to run away.
He wasn't wrong.
But - the more they practice, the faster they get better.
