Not sure if this is allowed. But if it stays on Would all of you please pray and also add to your prayer list. Jerome Crawford. He is my sister's fiance. He was in a horrible car accident this morning. I am sorry I am not able to give technical terms for this. The doctor and nurse gave them But we have been at the hospital since 7am this morning after getting home from vacation after midnight last night. I got a call from my mom at 630 this morning. On his way to work this morning Jerome swerved to avoid hitting a deer. They live in Merengo. He was driving on route 20. He went into a ditch on the right and swerved to get back on the road (this is from markings at the scene the only thing Jerome remembers is hitting a deer (he did not hit the deer) the car came back onto the road and over the lines into oncoming traffic. he hit another car head on. The cars were on route 20 and both going in excess of 55 miles an hour. his car flipped on top of the other car. both windshields shattered and he was hanging upside down thru the windshield of the other car. both he and the other driver had to be removed from the vehicles. i don't know about the other driver but hospital was not sure if she was going to make it. At the time Jerome was airlifted from Sherman hospital in elgin she was still alive. Jerome was airlifted to northwestern memorial. Sherman was not equipped to handle the level of trauma he had sustained. His neck is broken, (they used big terms) his spinal cord has been rammed upwards and all vertebrae are compromised (another big term I can't remember) one arm broke, both legs broken in multiple places. not sure at this time of internal injuries. not sure at this time of level of swelling of brain and whether or not parts of the spinal cord have broken off into the brain. Fear of stroke is very high. multiple places of bleeding. concussion. police officer asked him multiple times Jerome do you remember what happened. he said over and over he hit a deer. During the surgery his neck will have screws implanted to hold his head in place. his back will be put back together as much as possible arm and legs will be set. at the time of surgery he was able to move his arms and shoulders and hands although he couldn't use his fingers to hold anything. but he could squeeze his hands shut. it is hoped that after the surgery his hands will be more functional. It is doubtful he will walk again although God is very powerful. Please pray for Jerome and the woman in the other car and their families and for the doctors and nurses who will be caring for him.

I wanted to give an update and to say thank you so much for all the prayers.

Jerome is no longer in the induced coma. he is awake and pretty lucid. not
sure he totally understands the complications as he keeps asking if he can just
go home with us and we can bring him back. however here are the good things.
the spine which they thought was severed in 2 spots is not. it is horribly
bruised and they have done 1 6 hour surgery to realign everything. the one arm
has been set and is in a cast. they have removed the "halo" and now have just a
big cervical collar. they have metal plates screwed into the back and sides of
his neck to hold his head steady. he has use of his arms and shoulders but his
hands while they can squeeze are not able to pick up anything. that will take
some therapy. still not sure about his legs. he says he has tingling like they
are asleep and then it goes away. he asked to go to the bathroom. nurse said
go ahead Jerome you have a catheter. he said not that the other. and he did.
so since there are feelings and sensa!
tions it is hoped that he will again some day walk. keep praying mama's. it
is only thru gods grace that he has made it this far.
Lord,
I call on you, Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who Heals, to heal Jerome and the other driver. Please send you peace that is beyond understanding to all the families and friends.
Keeping Jerome and the other driver in my thoughts. Hang in there and stay strong for him, miracles do happen.
Gracious Heavenly Father we come to You right now and ask that You would wrap Your loving arms around Jerome, his fiancee, the other driver and everyone who is involved in this horrible accident. Please be with the Doctors and Nurses and other medical staff, give them wisdom, discernment and empathy. Just bless everyone with an extra measure of Your grace and Your peace and we will rely upon You to be the Great Physician in this circumstance.

Of course you can ask for prayer and there are many ladies here that will offer them. God has done more miraculous things than this so we come humbly and ask. Jerome, your sister, the other driver and the entire family are in my prayers. Keep us updated.

I do believe in prayer and I will pray for Jerome and the other driver. I will also pray for the families as I know how hard something like this can be on them.
May both families receive miracles of healing.

I'm so sorry this happened. I will pray for Jerome and all the families involved. Life is so short. Things can change in an instant. I pray that Jerome will make a full recovery.

I'm so glad to hear he has made it through the first couple of days! How are the other people doing who were involved in the accident?
Northwestern is a great hospital. A friend's husband was there years ago after a bad accident. Your sister's fiance is in excellent care -- it's just a long way for your family to travel to be with him, I assume, since he is from Marengo. I will pray for you all.
