My sister got one from exercising. She had to have an operation to remove it. Definitely see the doctor.
Hi. Please forgive my ignorance on this issue. This is going to sound very strange, but last week I was straining and after I have had a pain in my mid right side abdomen. It feels like a pull of some sort, but it hurts just laying in bed. It is pretty constant and I am just not sure what to make of it. I have had my husband feel my belly several times and it hurts when he presses on it. He says it feels like a small lump in there. I don't know, can a woman have a hernia?

Hi M., yes a woman can get a hernia. They usually ar not to serrious get t checked to make sure that is what it is. J. L.
YES and if you think you have one, especially where you are discribing it you should really have it checked out. I have a friend who just had emergency surgery because he didn't get it looked at sooner. He didn't go to the doctor until a few months afterward and his intestines were begining to push thru. He lost part of his intestines. Having it checked out early will prevent anything like that.
Anyone can get a hernia......My sister had one when she was little and my nephew got one too. Both needed surgery to fix it. I know a lot of adults who have had them too. It is not gender specific, it can affect anyone. It is never a good thing to have part of your insides poking through the muscle wall!! Hernias are not a good thing. Have that looked at. I hope everything works out. Good luck!!
Yes!! My girlfriend got one and had to have surgery.
Call your Dr.
All the best,
M.
Oh yes women can definitely get them. I believe most are when the intestines poke through the muscle down there for whatever reason. Most can be fixed with laperscopic surgery.
M.,
I had one years ago and I had a lump down toward my lower pubic area. I had surgery to repair it. You should really have it looked at because it could rupture and cause more severe problems. Also, I think that they do the surgery via laser these days so the recovery period is much milder than it used to be.
Good luck!

Hi M.-
Yes, women can get hernias too. I had one myself like 12 years ago. I don't know how I got it but my OB/GYn discovered it. I used to work in a hospital and learned that hernias are very common in children too. Maybe you had no symptoms until now and that one strain set it off. I would check it out soon. You don't want to put that off because it requires surgery to repair it. Once they found mine, I was in surgery the following week. Good luck!
Yes, my neighbor just had hernia surgery which was a pregnancy/birth injury. However, my daughter was doing some extensive physical training and she pulled a tummy muscle and she had a lot of pain with a lump. She went to the doctor and he gave her some sort of heat patch to wear for like 20 hours and then it started healing. Go get it checked.
