Can a Child Lose a Tooth Without Knowing It?

A few weeks ago, my son said his teeth hurt, and we checked and at least one on the bottom front was loose. This was our first loose tooth on our oldest child, so a totally new experience for us. About a week later, I thought it looked like there were spaces in his teeth that weren't there before. Two teeth in front are quite loose, and there is space on either side of the two teeth that wasn't there before. There was a pink circle in the larger of the spaces, so I'm guessing that he lost that tooth and then the two loose ones have shifted to create another small space on the other side. Has anyone ever had their child lose a tooth without noticing? This is driving me crazy. I'm not making a big deal of it with him, because I don't want him to be sad if he lost it. But, I just can't imagine that it came out unnoticed. This is a new stage of life for us, to have a child old enough to lose teeth, so if any of you have experienced anything similar, I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks!

Yep! It is actually fairly common for kids to lose a tooth and swallow it in the middle of the night or something. It is likely that it what happened. What a bmmer for both of you on your first tooth, but my opinion is pretend it did not happen yet if he has not noticed and wait for the next one:) Good luck! ~A.~

Sounds like he lost it. Just make him an appointment with his dentist, they will know for sure.

Hi D.,

Yeah, that happened with my youngest son recently. He was at school eating lunch and swallowed his tooth. Or at least thats what we can figure out. We just all laughed about it and said next time try to save the tooth. And then it happened again about two weeks later with his other tooth! Poor little guy!

I still remember losing a tooth while eating dinner! I never even noticed until it was too late and I had already swallowed it!!
