Hi L.,

I've heard great things about Calvary too. I work in a school and at least three of our teachers have children who are there. I and deciding on a pre-school for my two year old, but haven't made a decision yet. Calvary was in my top three choices including Laren Montessori and St. John Lutheran. I may leave her in the home daycare where she is now until she is four, but I do have to send her somewhere soon.

When I went to Calvary to ask for information, I was given a tour and sent home with lots of information, as well as a good sense of the whole place. It is a very loving, child-centered, Christian place that I know my child would thrive in. Good luck with your decision!

Hello and I can tell you that this is and excellent school and i can say this because I a former teacher for the school. The childrens ability to learn is high priority. There is much love and care for each and every student. The curriculm is not only age approriate but also to a level well each child will learn at there own pace but also excel to the next level. I will say that the teachers are wonderful with the children. You may be wondering if I speak so highly of this place why did I leave, well unfortunately it was because my father became ill and soon after passed away and I moved to the city to be close to my mother. If this had not occure i would still be working there. I can even tell you about some of the wonderful teachers that you have to choose from.

Hello L., I have 3 daughters at Calvary Academy in 2nd, 4th and 6th and couldn't say enough good things about it. It is a school that is on the cutting edge of education. I recommend you tour all the private schools the other person mentioned and you then tour Calvary and you will be very happy. The teachers are wonderful and the staff has a real heart for every student they have. The facilities are incredible, the gym is great for hosting are own home tournaments. The administrator is always looking into upgrades in educational things for the school. I volunteer at the school often and get to see the behind the scenes activity and feel completely safe having my daughters there, I would pay double if I had too!

Good Morning L.,

Calvary Academy is AWESOME! And I also recommend the Kids Church the first and third Sunday of each month. It would take a lot of space to say all the positives that Calvary does for kids. When our church stopped the Sunday school program, I went searching for another church program for my girls.

I did not know any church that would do and create such a wonderful place to teach kids about Jesus, Calvary Academy teachers are wonderful with each student. I met Kelly (pastor’s daughter) through Gold Canyon, and she mention Calvary, so I gave it a go….I truly feel this is a great place for kids to learn and grow from. Unfortunately we don’t have the money means to have our girls attend school full time at Calvary private school… if we could, we would enroll them in a heartbeat, before any other private school…… But, they will not miss the Kids Church each month!!!

Calvary Academy is Simply The BEST!

I work at a public school in South Holland, so I am gonna give you honest information and my sister used to work at Calvary Academy. There are two districts in South Holland and both are struggling academically. District 151 made AYP which means we met in reading and math with our test scores for the state, district 150 did not. Public schools are rough in this area, it is a changing area and we are getting more homeless kids b/c of the economy. District 151 where I work is not bad, there are great programs here and we truly attempt to reach the needs of all kids!
As for Calvary, it has changed over the years. Obviously it is better than public schools, but I have heard it is not worth the money you are going to pay. If you really want private school, Trinity Lutheran School in Lansing and St. John Lutheran School in Lansing are both very good. I would also recommend Christ our Savior. I have kids who transfered from Christ our Savior and they have been very smart kids!
I hope this info has been helpful. I would also recommend going on a tour of the schools, it always give you a better sense of the school and if it is a good fit for your child.

I had a friend with her kids at Calvary last year and her oldest went there when she was younger. They liked it but it is a upper middle class attitude. (Little snobby if you ask me and I picked them up many times from there.) It was good academically bt our kids had gone to an ABEKA based program and were writing in cursive from kindergarten on and her third grader was not allowed to write in cursive until they 'learned' it later in the year. You should check out all the schools in the area for the best fit for you. My kids went to Cornerstone Christian School in Chicago Heights and would probably still be there if we could afford. Right now they are home schooled and we are having a blast with that!! Conerstone has changed academically for the better this past year and has added a new science and Englsih curriculum and a harder more involved Spanish that starts in Kindergarten. They also have a staff of some of the most experienced teachers in the area.
