Calorie Counting

My daughter is 10 months old and I am still at my 9-mos. pregnancy weight! I have met with a nutritionist who has given me great advice on foods to eat and how much of what I should be getting, etc. But I really need to count what I am eating. I would prefer a calorie counting system that's online so I can update it while at work or home, and I would prefer a free service. I am looking for something that has basic food preset, like the calories in green beans, but you can add label information from a product you consume and it memorizes it and allows you to put in the portion you consumed and it would be able to calculate. If you know of a magical website like this please let me know! Thanks for all your input!

A.,
One thing that helped me to lose my pregnancy weight was pilates/yoga. At the time, I was able to go to a class one night a week and my hubby would watch my boys. However, now it does not work because he gets home late from work and travels. So, I bought a DVD at Costco that comes with a pilates ball. Exercise is probably more important than calorie counting to lose the pounds.

Fitday.com is a nice site and I used it to loose weight after my first child. Its an online journal and it has food with amounts already stored in with it calorie count and you can add you own items with the calories as well. It store info for you just as a journal, so you can go back and look at your progress. For me, keeping to a 1500 calorie (for example) diet and exercising daily (like walking hr on treadmill or aerobics classes) help me to loose. Now if I can only get back to that disciplined regiment now to loose this weight I gained after my second baby.....LOL!

Hello,
After my pregnancy, I used myfitnesspal.com and lost 20 pounds in 2 months just by diet alone! (I was still at my pregnancy weight 4 months after I had my baby!) At first it's kind of time consuming because you have to put in everything but then it will hold a list of your "common" foods and then it's a matter of clicking. It has a very extensive data base of foods, so searching for foods is simple. The only thing I had a problem with is serving size. Sometimes they would only have things listed in ounces and I would have to guess at how much I had. Anyway....I LOVE this website!

I have used Babyfit.com during pregnancy and postpartum and it is exactly like what you are describing. It is a sister site to SparkPeople.com which is the same idea only not for pregnant/nursing/postpartum. It is a very convenient way to track calorie intake as well as any nutrients you may be interested in tracking. Good luck!

I use http://caloriecount.about.com it's free, has good tools and helps you look up the calorie amounts on most foods including foods from different restaurants. Good luck and my best advice is to find a buddy to help you stay in check, it's too hard to do alone!

actually, the best way to loose weight is to try to delete as many carbs from your diet as possible. it's amazing how many calories are in pasta and bread. eat lots of produce and dairy products for great health. workout too. even walking is great!

I've been using thedailyplate.com since January. Easy to use to track foods and activities, also gives nutrient breakdown. Has a large database of foods, and you can add foods and even recipes. Calculates everything (nutrition facts) as you requested in your post. A study came out last week saying that tracking your food intake was the largest indicator of diet success. It is easy...even "magical!"

Try http://www.fitday.com/. I have been using it for years and sounds like exactly what you are looking for, plus its free! As an added bonus, it also calculates your intake of nutrients, not just calories so you can really determine if you are getting everything your body needs. It will even calculate what calories you are burning throughout the day. Seems to me this is the "magical website" you are looking for.
P.S.
It also links with www.dietfacts.com so you can directly upload nutritional information from popular restaurants into your calorie log.
Good luck!

Hi A.,

I used my calorie counter, and you would have to google it because I think it may have changed names. I loved it because a lot of times it had the foods I needed and could just click on them to add them in for the day. You can also add your own foods. It worked really great for me especially when I could have an honest friend look at it periodically to keep me on track. Changing my eating was the best thing I ever did!

Good luck to you, you can do it!

The easiest thing to do I found is just a few basics. Count carbs instead of calories. For a meal you could have from 45 to 60 carbs. For a snack, only 15. That way you can eat whatever you want but stay within your carbs. Also, eat more green leafy vegi's and drink lost of water. Eat your "big carbs" earlier in the day and your protien and leafy vegi's later in the day. For dessert, have yogurt or fruit. I hate to exercise so walking is better than nothing.

I have been doing weight watchers for about 6 months now and weigh less then before I did before I had my second, in fact less then I did in high school almost 15 years ago. I found a great website to help keep motivated called www.sparkpeople.com
You can enter everything you ate during the day and it calculated the calories, it has fitness programs, recipes, and many other tools. It really has something for everyone.
