Calling All Technical Guru's on Cell Phones.....

I have verizon right now and we have been very unhappy with them but our contract is finally up in May. I really think I want to go with Metro PCS because they don't require you to sign a contract and I know several others who have them and think they are fine. We NEVER and I mean NEVER go out of town so for us I think Metro is the best option including price plus added bonus of not getting tied up into something for the next two years!
Anyways my question is I have been seeing alot of "phone is unlocked" or you can flash this sprint phone over to Metro PCS but I don't understand what they are talking about. I don't have a problem buying a used phone as long as it still works and I don't throw too much money down the drain. I was really wanting the LG Optimus M through Metro but due to the price I'm not quite sure but if I could find say another similiar model through say Sprint but still use Metro I would be happy with that-I don't care about the phone per say its the carrier Metro PCS that I want to go with since I wouldn't be locked into a contract.....well okay yes the phone is sort of important I like all the features of the Optimus but I like the service M<etro provides for it and the price!! Plus if they didn't work out I was thinking that maybe I could go to Sprint or At & T so if I could buy one of their phones and flash it over to Metro and say Metro didn't work out for us then I could flash it back over to Sprint? Is that how it works? I'm so confused????

What can I do next?

I'm not a guru, but I'll try to answer :)

If Metro uses Sprint's towers then you should be able to use a Sprint phone. I won't swear to it though.

We used to have Centennial, then AT&T bought them. I can still use my old Centennial phone. I still have my Centennial SIM card and it works great in my AT&T phone. The best thing to do is to talk to a representative before you spend money on a phone.

If the phone is "unlocked" that means you can use any service provider you want.

I would say to check out some other carriers. I would tell you that I would check out metro and other carriers such as AT&T. I love AT&T and have had them for several years. I have good service and good customer service through them. I have a friend who has t-mobile and does not like them at all. With metro pcs,I had a friend who had bad reception in her apartment and had to go outside to talk on the phone.. I do not understand the flash part either. I do not know if one phone from one carrier is compatible with another carrier. check some stuff out and then make your final decision.

I'm with verizon have been for the last 9 yrs. I hate to update my phone so i'll do it a year or 2 after my contract just to pay month to month if your cell phones still work I would stay with them till you finally decide on what to do.If for some reason you have a bill & cancel, your number will not transfer till your account is at a zero balance.
Look at Radio Shack & Best Buy they have locked & "unlocked phones"opt for the new unfurbished since the furbished can come broken or have some fault issues still then you'll be looking again to replace the cell.
Ask Metro what towers they run off of

I believe the "flash" is talking about your data being transferrable to a different phone if you switch. Meaning the store takes your old phone data and synchs it to the new phone.
they did this with my samsung when I upgraded to iphone. HOWEVER, I lost data like ringtones and some phone numbers. . .
