We have 3 kids on our local summer swimteam. That mean up to 15 ribbons total each week that are brought home. I need a creative way to display or keep them. Would love to hear any creative ideas!! C'mon ladies...wow me!!

I can't help but think of the scene in the Twilight movie when Bella and Edward are walking up the staircase and there is a gynormous shadow box type wallhanging with all their graduation caps from hundreds of graduations.

Thanks for sharing your creative flair!!

So What Happened?

Thanks a bunch for all the responses and tips. I love your creativity. Looks like we will be getting even more ribbons because our kids asked to do year round swimming. Yikes! This is our first venture into it. But...to have all 3 kids doing the same sport with practices and meets at the same time is so nice. I will incorporate some of your suggestions soon...when I get crafty...and when I get the time. For now they will remain in a big bag.

Sorry, but all my kids' many swim team ribbons are kept in a plastic box! : ( I keep telling myself someday I'll make a display of them, but I'm busy raising the kids, lol!

How about taking a picture of each kid with their ribbons and make a scrapbook page?

This is not creative at all but I bought big bulletin boards for my girls' swim team ribbons. They love coming home with the new ones and tacking them up! Funny story you'll appreciate - as a motivator, I stupidly told my kids that I'd give them $1 for every second they dropped off their best times. I must've forgotten that when they're 9 and 7 they can drop LOTS of seconds. I guess I was picturing how when I swam in college it was monumental to drop a 1/2 second! We're keeping a tally of all the seconds dropped, and so far I owe them each about $26!! Of course, they've never been so excited about swimming....

Anyway, I hope you get some good responses on the ribbon display - maybe I need to do something different!

My kids don't swim, but I was a competitive swimmer for many years. My mom bought a huge bulliten board to display all of my ribbons on.

Not a swimteam mom, but I was involved with horse shows for many years. I kept all my ribbons, but it got to be too much, so I kept the middle ribbon with the event and the placing, and then I sewed them into a kind of quilt. I display it on the wall, and it brings back a lot of happy memories for me :-)

I make custom hat/belt/hair accessory/etc. racks. They can definately be custom made to hang swim team ribbons! Here is a sample of what I make. http://www.etsy.com/shop/frommypaintbrush?ref=si_shop If you are interested, I can make custom ones just for your kids. They can be longer with multiple hooks. I can add their names. Specific colors, etc! Feel free to contact me at ____@____.com And I'm in Castro Valley.
Thanks!

Oh I love this! Ribbons are actually huge in the diy craft movement right now.

I actually blogged about this last year too, I have some cute ribbon display examples here:

check out these displays: (remove spaces)

you could easily make one yourself using those wooden wall letters, some paint, hardware and a dowel or two! Another Idea is to get a large, deep frame, cut some fabric to fit it, and arrange the medals or ribbons in it!

good luck!

I was on a swimteam and I put all of mine in a rubbermaid plastic box. I got to keep out a handful of the best, which would be replaced if I placed higher or had a faster swim time (even if I placed the same, higher or lower). I tacked them to my board in my room with a bunch of my other pictures.

Oh and years later, like 12 years later, I went through and kept only the 1st places and best time ribbons the remainder I threw out.

We have shown horses for years and have tons of ribbons too. I have seen people make quilts for beds and wall hangings out of them.

We just took a big ribbon, strung it across the wall and hung all their current ribbons on it. We are running out of room though and will need a new solution soon.
