Planning an anniversary trip to Mexico in July. My husband and I got married in the Riviera Maya 9 years ago, so it would be nice to go back. We've also always wanted to go to Cabo as well. For those of you that have been, which would you recommend? Are the beaches nice in Cabo? I know they are beautiful in the Cancun/Riviera Maya area. Any particular resorts that you'd recommend? Looking for atleast 4 star, adults-only. Thanks in advance for your help!

What can I do next?

I enjoy the Rivera Maya area. We've stayed at Dreams Tulum (would not recommend, seaweed in most areas of water, rocky beach in parts too. Did have tasty food.), Grand Palladium twice (5 resorts in one, 2 adult sections, we stayed in the nicest part Royal Riviera - incredible cabana room, deluxe bath, outdoor shower *sigh* but be prepared to walk to the other side of the resort since it's a pretty secluded adult section. There are staff with golf carts that happily take you wherever you want to go. Also stayed in the Kantenah section and it was OK but not romantic, more a family trip area) and last year we were at the adult section of IberoStar Grand Hotel Paraiso (wonderful room, beautiful beach, food not as good as GP.) Avoid the IberoStar Cozumel unless all you want to do is scuba. It's a bit worn down.

We went to Cabo in July 2008. We had a great time but there were things I didn't like. The hotel we stayed at was all-inclusive but they shut all the bars down at 5pm. Us 4 would be the only ones at the pool at that time. Dreams in Cabo was more adultish and they didn't do this so it was mainly our hotel. The other thing is the ride to downtown took about 20+ minutes and cost $25 each way. Most of Cabo's beaches are un-swimmable. We were able to swim and jet ski outside our hotel though. So just some things to think about. The downtown nightlife was a lot of fun and they have a great marina with shops and places to eat and a few restaraunts on the beach at near downtown that face the Sea of Cortez.

We went to Cabo in the Spring of 2010 and stayed at the Mayan Palace (the bigger one - there are two). It's not adults only but it is allinclusive which I highly recommend. We absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back!

My friend just honeymooned in Riviera Maya. She said they felt very safe. Had a great time. Met a lot of wonderful people from all over the world. Beautiful beaches. and all for a good price. only complaint was the food wasn't very good. I don't know about Cabo, but the impression I get from people who have been is it's more spring break 99.

We did not enjoy Cabo at all. It is very touristy and we like the traditional feel of Mexico. Also it was expensive.

We were not allowed to swim in the water at Cabo. (There is a bad undertow.) It's a great and beautiful place to visit, but the beaches are not white beautiful sand...at least where we stayed, (Riu Santa Fe). It was like ground up cinder blocks and rough on the bare feet. We loved going to the glass factory and the resort we stayed at was wonderful.

Haven't been to Riviera Maya, but I have some friends who go 4 to 6 times a year.

Have fun and Happy Anniversary!

We went to the Riviera Maya to Secrets Silver Sands. It was an all inclusive and adults only. It wasn't one of those XXX adults only. Just Adults only as in "no diapers in the pool." The beach was very nice, but the Gulf Of Mexico at this point had lots of coral growth in the water. You had to have shoes if you went more than 10 feet in the water. The water was rather shallow and only became chest high about 50 yards from shore. It is about one hour from the Cancun airport. The rooms were very large and ours had a 4 person jacuzzi in it. Our sliding glass door was about 10 to 15 feet from the pool by our building. The staff was very nice and accomodating. They had 6 restaurants and the worst one was very very good. I bought though cheapcarribean.com and got a real good deal, including airfare.

We went over mother's day and the weather was moderate and nice. Beware of the timeshare salesman. Do like the drug program in our schools . . . "Just say No."

We had a very nice time. Good luck to you and yours.

Check out the Royal Hideaway and the royale in Playa del Carmen. Both hotels are 5 star adult only resort. I personally stayed at the Royal Hideaway and loved every minute of it. I have friends that stayed at The Royale and felt the same way. After talking with my friends i think that the Royal Hideaway has more 5 star restuarants and more activities to partake in and the salsa(pico de gallo) is to die for. Both hotels are all -inclusive and serve top shelf alcohol.
