HI there fellow moms,
I had my 2nd c-section 5.5 months ago and my incision has split open again! It appears to be just one layer of skin, not clear down in there. It has done this before but hasn't gotten this big. This time it's about the size of the head on a q-tip. As of right now, there is no drainage other than a little bright red blood. My c-sections were 18 months apart. I didn't have one single problem with the first and the doctor used staples, this last time, the Dr. used stitches on the inside, then super glued the incision together and used steri strips to keep it closed. However, the side that I am having problems with was the first side the strips came off. I have gone to the Dr. to look at it about 2.5 months ago, because it had never fully healed. I went maybe 3 weeks with no problems but now the incision (the same spot) keeps reopening (usually the size of the tip on a ball point pen), but closes in about a week. I hadn't done anything different as far as activity wise, other than walking around town. I am getting extremely frustrated having to fight with this dang thing. I didn't want to have a 2nd c-section to begin with and now my incision is done healing. My dr. did say that sometimes it takes 6+ months for some people to heal, but with my first I was done and healed in a month and I had gone through labor with that one! I am wondering if other c-section moms have had this same issue. I am curious to know if there is any "secret" so to say, that I can do to prevent this from happening?? Thanks in advance!!
I forgot to mention that when I went to the Dr about it they just put a few steri strips over it and it healed within a week or two. But obviously didn't solve the problem.

What can I do next?

I would go back to your OB and let the dr know it is still spliting. After my second c-section (11 months apart) I had this problem and my OB put 1 surgical staple in that place till it healed properly (took about 2 weeks) and i have not had a problem since.

I had staples and then the steri strips on the outside. I had one problem where the drain was. It took a long time for it to heal. This was about the same size you are describing. All you can do is keep it clean. Possibly apply Neosporin to it and let it breath occassionally.

I have had a similar problem after my second c-section. Unfortunately, I can't offer you any advise as my problem is still recurring. I just wanted to mention to you to be very careful about keeping it clean as mine got an infection a few weeks after my son was born, and I've been battling both the incision opening and being infected. I hope someone can offer you some advise and that you hel completely very soon!

I had the same thing happen to me. The incision will not heal properly in that spot a the edges of the skin have already healed somewhat, unfortunatley not together. My doctor had to put some silver nitrate (yes it burns) on the spot that would not heal so that the edges would again be raw & could knit back together. It had completely closed & healed within a week after this.

I had stiches on the inside and glue on the outside also and mine healed within a week and I don't even have a scar. There is something wrong there and I would suggest you see another doctor.
