Buying Work Clothes on Ebay

I read an article recently about how you can get some really good deals on quality used clothing on ebay. I'm considering trying this for work clothes since I already know my size in certain brands. If it's a good quality brand, I'm thinking it might be worth it and save me a ton. Anyone have any luck with this or use any other shopping sites?

What can I do next?

Something else I do is sign up for alerts for all the brands I like and troll their sales. I got Ann Taylor skirts for $20 at a clearance event online (vs $98) so if you don't think Ebay is right for you, try that route. I also get clothing at thrift stores - you can see the condition of the item and it's usually very inexpensive. Brand names are there, too.

I agree that NWT (new with tags) is preferable on most ebay clothing items like this.

It's like shopping at a consignment store over the internet.
Yeah, you can find some good deals.

eBay is probably more reliable than Freecycle or Craigslist.
Read the reviews of the person/place you're buying from.

It is possible that occasionally the item or condition of item won't be exactly as advertized.
Always remember - 'Caveat Emptor' - "let the buyer beware."

I am not a big online shopper or EBay fan. I'm picky about my clothes and buying online and I do not buy used clothing. Too many unknowns about used clothing... shrinkage, knockoffs, etc.

I have alerts from my favorite stores for when they have markdowns, etc and I buy from my favorite stores new items that are marked down. I am a huge White House Black Market fan and I have found some great deals when I am prompted online about a sale which usually includes a coupon for a certain percentage off. I got some really cute tops that were originally $78 each for less than $40.

I believe the main thing to do is buyer beware because you don't know if someone is honest or not.

There is a community online FB page that I am a member of and people sell clothing there as well. You might want to check those out for your area. I see lots of clothing, baby items, etc on the site.

It's worth a shot. I have purchased a bridesmaid dress and maternity clothes on ebay, both turned out just fine. Definitely check out the seller's approval rating and number of sales.

I used to buy new clothes from a few trusted sellers in my preferred brands - could buy them much cheaper than in stores (not sure how they managed that, but I got some great bargains).

When I bought used clothing, sometimes my idea of what great condition was didn't match sellers. There is conflict resolution you can go through, but to me it was a pain. So I stuck to buying new items only.

The thing with used items is you have no idea how they've cleaned the item. A few things I bought were not dry cleaned for example - you could tell they'd be shrunk. So ordering your usual size didn't always work.

Just something to be aware of. For me, it was hit and miss.

Good luck :)

I've done this a ton. Especially for dresses and shoes (I love Cole Haan, but not the $$).
Sometimes you'll get something where the fit is off, but largely, I've had good luck with known brands.

It is hit and miss for me.

Some 'high end' items from eBay seem to be from Marshall's or Ross when I get them. I can tell they are a little off or hang a bit funny.

The items were still nice and much cheaper, but not perfect. Too much of a hassle to send back in my opinion.

It's very hit or miss, and returns can be impossible, so as long as you're willing to risk possibly buying items that you won't be able to return I guess it's worth it.

I just started buying some clothes on eBay because the shopping where I am is not that great. I always look for brands I know, so I am familiar with sizes and choose New With Tags for condition. If you go with New Without Tags, you run the risk of getting something that has been previously worn. There are plenty of large liquidators similar to TJ Maxx that sell new clothes at good prices. Look carefully at the return policy, particularly with clothing. I also only stick to US sellers. The risk of counterfeit products is too high with overseas sellers. It's worked out pretty well so far.
