If it is stainless steal get a lemon cut it in half and scrub the pain with the fresh cut lemon half it works every time!
Any ideas on how to get rid of the black gunk from boiling water that ruined the bottom of a pot once water ran out ?
Not a good cook at all........have done this way too many times.
I googled it and nothing is working.

1. scrub with baking soda;
2. if not working then fill with water and baking soda boil.
3. Another option is to use the spray used to clean your oven Easy Off.
Either way scrub with wire brush/coil sponge.
Good luck. I"ve done it a few times too and the above has worked for me.
I can empathize; I burn pans all the time. If nothing you googled is working, not sure I can help. But generally, good 'ol cleanser (I think I have Armor All??) and elbow grease works for me. I do the initial scrub. Soak it for awhile. Do a 2nd go-around, and generally can at least make it look useable.....Good luck!
I use DAWN POWER DISSOLVER. Or BAR KEEPERS FRIEND. I use the power dissolver on everything from pots and pans to cleaning the gutters. It works great on everything. My dad once burned a pot so bad that it was up the sides. I used the power dissolver and it came right off. Looks like new.
I also use the power dissolver on the outside toys. Just spray on, let sit for a few minutes take a rag or sponge, wipe off and rinse. Reapply if necessary. Good Luck!
Cover the bottom of the pan with dish soap. Add water and boil to loosen the junk. Scrub w/ an SOS pad when cook. Always works for me.
You could try what the Queen of Clean says to clean pots/pans. Put several used dryer sheets in the pot with hot water and let them soak. When I've done it in the past I've let it soak over night. Then scrub the next day. It's worked great for me with burnt food.
Cover entire area with tomato sauce/spaghetti sauce and bring to a boil, Simmer for an hour. Let cool and then clean with scouring pad and Bar Keeper's Friend which you can usually find at the grocery store.

If it's a non-stick pan then fill a couple of inches deep with water and add some dish soap. Boil until the crust is loosened.
If it's not a non-stick, the do the above procedure, but add a good old fashioned elbow-grease scrub with some steel wool at the end of it.
Repeat as necessary until the whole thing is clean. Oh and this time, try not to let the water run out....
We've all been there.... I ruined one of my favorite back when I hadn't learned to trust myself in the kitchen yet.
Throw a dryer softener sheet (Bounce) into the pot and cover it with water. Let it soak overnight. It should be softened enough to remove the next morning.
Good luck!
fill it with bleach enough to cover the burns, put a lid on it and boil it for 20 minutes (set a timer so it doesn't burn this time). Turn off the heat and let it sit overnight. In the morning apply ample elbow grease and it will look grand! Best wishes.
if it is stainless steel, brass or copper get try "Bar Keepers Friend"
Next time set the timer on the stove top!
SOS pad/ Brillo pad as long it isn't a non-stick pan.
Every time my mother burned a pot - which was rare - food stuck on that spot forever. Throw out the pot and start over. It took her 50 years to finally do that and she's been much happier with her new pot that doesn't stick.
Boil water in the pot and THEN add the baking soda. It's important that the water be boiling before the soda is added. After it is done fizzing and hissing dump the water and scrub what you can out of the bottom. It may take several times if it is bad but it does work.
