Does he have it all the time or just sometimes? Is this the first time he's had it? It could be excema, which could result from an allergy, sensitivity, or just plain old dry skin. It also could be, and maybe more likely, is a rash from moisture. Does he dribble milk when eating? It could be that he's getting moist from dribble that isn't getting wiped up and his shirt is keeping the moisture close to his skin and causing the rash. I would eliminate that as a possibility first and then probably move on to excema. At 5 months he may not noticeably scratch at it or seem bothered by it. You can apply some Aquaphor to keep it super moisturized. If it doesn't go away I'd ask your doc at your next appointment.

Does your little one get sweaty or hot easily, if so it can be a heat rash, a refreshing bath and light close, and not over covering him can do the trick, a heat rash is easy to get and goes away quick too But if not this are you trying any new things like gerber or juice, if so it can be a food allergy or an allergic reaction from something if you don't see improvement i'd call the doctor.

It could be any number of things... I remember when my DD had little R. bumps I assumed it was heat rash (we were in Tx, and it was June). I brought it up to her pedi. at her well-child visit, and it turned out to be a 'cradle cap' rash. (basically, her cradle cap 'spread' down her body, but since her body doesn't produce oil the same way the scalp does, it resulted in the bumps. The funny thing is that her cradle cap itself was very minor...) My nephew had really bad exzema that started out as harmless little bumps, but as it worsened it started bugging him more and more. It could be a virus, heat rash, a reaction to food, clothes, soap, anything he comes into contact with. I think that your best bet would be to see his pedi. about it. We can't see the rash, and most of us aren't doctors, so it's pretty hard to tell. :)

It is too early for heat rash. Since he is so young, you may want to take him to see the doc. A friend of mine had bumps all over and she thought it was chicken pox, it turned out to be an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can cause the throat to swell and you would have a hard time recognizing that, due to his lack of communication.

Mine got the same thing on her neck and upper chest. The only way I could get rid of it was to give her oatmeal baths. Fill a clean sock with dry oatmeal and tie the end off. Do not use soap in the bath. Dip the sock in the bathwater till it's soaked and squeeze the oatmeal juice off on baby's neck and let it sit there. Keep doing it as long as your baby will stay in the tub. Also spit up makes the rash worse so keep the neck dry. Our baby had to wear a bib constantly so no droll or spit up got on her neck. It took about a week and then the rash went away but it came back as soon as we took the bib off so give it about 2 weeks. I swear this works a nurse told us about it.
