Mama's I would like to start a bully program in my daughters school. I have been in contact with a numerous of programs in our area and the price to have them come into the school is not feasible for the school or parents to pay at this time. I would like to still have the topic addressed. Can you share with me some activities that you may know of, some information that you may have received in a seminar or training you have been a part of or just some plain old wisdom that i can share.

Thanks for taking the time!

What can I do next?

I've seen literature including posters (the kind you hang on the wall) available and inexpensive. I think it was from the Peace Institute but I'm not sure. Look on the Internet for info regarding bullying prevention programs.

My granddaughter's school has a low key program run by the school counselor. If your school has a counselor that would be a good place to start if you haven't already talked with them.

Hi Loving, my daughter's middle school runs a yearly bullying assembly which is headed up by our Resource Officer, a NYS Trooper. I'd imagine it is a primarily state funded/facilitated program.

Perhaps you can make some phone calls to your local law enforcement officers and get something started?

Good Luck and kudos to you for caring and following through!

Look into this: "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids," by Carol McCloud.

This was a big hit at my friends kids school. Each kid decorated a little bucket and hung them from the ceiling.

Contact your local Police Department... they may have a community department.. that comes to schools and give talks about it.

Ultimately, it is important, to have a "Professional" on the subject, to give the lecture & guidelines about it... otherwise, the information given out, will be wrong or inappropriate...

The show 20/20, last week, did an episode on Bullying.. and that it is "epidemic" in the USA. If you go to their website, you can probably find the episode there.
Oh, here is the link for it and all about Bullying:

Start with the basics. Plain old wisdom....
The Golden Rule "Do unto others as you, would have others do unto you"
Natural and logical consequences.
Boundaries, mutual respect.
You have a great idea here! I think sometimes when a "program" comes into a school kids tune it out and might think participting isn't "cool". Sorry I don't have any ideas to implement the message. All the best and good luck!
