Bugaboo Owners: at What Age Did You Switch from Bassinette to the Seat?

Hi moms, my daughter is now 3 months old and doesnt enjoy riding around in her Bugaboo bassinette. Seems like she is bored just looking up into the sky, but i'm not sure if she's too young for the seat version of the Bugaboo? Any other Bugaboo owners out there with infants? She can hold her own head, but her back muscles aren't that strong. I tried to put her in one of those bebe pod seats and she doesnt like it too much and starts to lean/fall over to the side. Maybe if i switch to the bugaboo seat she wont be too comfortable at this age?

I am unable to use the bugaboo base with my car seat - even though I have the attachment - problem is that its way to heavy for me to lift with the baby in it. With that said I never take the car seat out and have to just move the baby.

What can I do next?

Hi L.,

My son was in the bassinette until he was able to sit up. The car seat adaptor is probably the most convenient way to go. What we did before he could sit up was prop a couple of baby pillows in the bassinette so he can sit up a bit to look around and not stare up at the sky all of the time. Then when he falls asleep, we'd take away a pillow or two so he can sleep comfortably flat. It worked great for us. Hope this helps!

I think that's around the time I switched my son into the regular seat (hard to remember, it was almost 3 years ago). They don't have to be able to sit up on their own, becuase the seat still reclines as much as you need it to. I think as long as she can hold her head up, you're fine to use it. Worst case scenario, it doesn't work out and you switch it back. No biggie. Good luck!

The Bugaboo seat reclines in several positions (you can even go almost flat), and I found it offered plenty of neck and back support for my 3 month old, and he really enjoyed being able to look around. And it's a lot easier to maneuver than the bassinet!

don't remember exactly what age, but we transitioned way early too. the seat has a few different selections for reclining, so i would be sure to fasten my son in and recline the seat. it offered a more "cradled" feel than the big bassinet.

We didn't use a Bugaboo, but my babies did not like laying in the stroller by the time they were 3 months old. They weren't sitting up yet, of course, by we just reclined the seat enough so they could fall to one side. We would usually put a rolled up blanket between the baby and the side of the stroller for a little support and so they weren't too curled over to the side. My babies loved being propped-up a little at this age to get a good look around. I don't know the Bugaboo, but hopefully you can do a similar type arrangement with your stroller.

It is not recommended to switch before 6 months because of lack of enough back strength until then.

I've used the seat in the reclined position from day 1--my 3 mo. old son loves it. As he gets older I'll just tilt it up! :)

HI L.,

First of all I think the person who sent the obnoxious note about sending your Bugaboo to Darfur was way out of line. I think you can report people like that.

We did the same thing some of the other moms said - when she got bored with the bassinet, we started using her car seat in the bugaboo frame, we did that until she grew out of the car seat, then we put her in the regular bugaboo seat. But I've seen women with little babies use the regular bugaboo seat in a reclined position and their little babies were just wrapped up and cozy (of course it was cooler out!)

Best of luck and don't worry about lame people with lame comments who have too much time on their hands. If she wants to save the world, she should do something positive instead of spreading ugliness.

Enjoy your baby!

I actually had misplaed the bassinette from when I was using it with my first baby, so started using the seat with my infant son pretty much right away! At first, I wrapped him and kind of propped him in, but adjusted it way back so it was just barely at an angle. No it's at a higher angle. He's four months. So I think it shouldn't be a problem! Good luck!

I switched pretty early, because both my boys really wanted to see the world, and were really upset when totally hidden in the bassinette. I made the switch at 4-5 months for both boys. I did not have it in the upright position, but slightly back, so there was no worries about them falling forward. They were so much happier being able to see the world.

Hi L.,

I switched to the seat at just about the three month point with both of my boys (one is now 27 months, the other is now 8 months)- in both cases, their neck and back muscles weren't fully there yet in terms of sitting, but both managed the bugaboo seat just fine. That said, the angle is fully adjustable on my bugaboo when its in the seat configuration - you can even tilt it almost completely flat - so for the first few monts after switching I kept the angle tilted back so the baby wasn't "sitting" straight up. Make sense?

I can imagine your little girl is bored with looking at the sky out of the bassinet at this point. :) But that bassinette sure is wonderful when they're tiny!!

Hope this helps!!

You can't switch until they can sit by themselves. I switched mine when my son was seven month old and I reclined him, actually he's still that way and he's now 13 month old. My son wasn't bored but I did have a "pram chain"(toy) for the bassinette. You can find them at Maukilo.com.
Also walking under trees was always a favorite because of the dark light contrast. She's really little- she'll get used to her stroller and love it.

6 months is the reccomended age for all infants to go in a stroller sitting up because of head strength. With that said you can purchase a head hugger that will keep your infants head from wobbling around and recline the seat all the way down. I truly feel the best way to go with any stroller is to have the infant car seat adapter. You simply snap in the car seat on the adapter. It is great for sleeping babies.

I bought a part that allows me to snap on her graco snugride carseat. She used the bassinette for about a month. She is nine months now and I've just trasitioned her into the buguboo seat. I love this stroller! Good luck!

I agree with the last comment, the negative comments are completely unnecessary and innappropriate. Try spending your time helping Darfur instead of telling others how to help.

I love my bugaboo and I am not bragging, I worked hard and saved money to buy it, we are not rich and pretentious. It's a great stroller.

I used the bassinet when my daughter was very small, but like many others I used the carseat adaptor to use my carseat as well. I think it's only $40 and was well worth it. It's very easy and convenient if the baby is sleeping, you don't have to take her out of the carseat and put her into the stroller.

I stopped using my infant carseat arounf 6 months, so that is when we switched to the seat for the stroller. Personally, I felt it was safer to wait becuase the seat doesn't hug and the baby seems to slide around, it seems like the seat belts of the stroller aren;t as snug for a baby who is smalelr.

Good luck and pay no mind to jealous, bored people who have nothing nice to say.

I'd try to make sure she's getting enough tummy time, that will really help streagnthen her muscles and give her the abiltiy to lift up her head and look around. Put some toys around her. I've never heard of this bassinet your talking about, but I wouldn't have her in it laying on her back unless she's going to sleep. I'd put her in a swing so she's slightly siting up but not going to lean forward. That way she can see what is going on and get more stimulation. She should be somewhat upright or on her tummy or if on her back, on the floor on a blanket with toys around her or even a bouncy chair is better with toys she can reach for.

Hi L., What we did was get the adapter for our Graco carseat and put it on the bugaboo base. Yeah it is kind of heavy and cumbersome but we did it til our son was 8 months and then we changed the stroller from bassinet to upright. I'm not really sure you could put her in the upright so young. I think the best bet if you can pull it off is use your adapter and snap the seat on it. Good luck!

my son never liked the bassinet, I think because he could not see anything lying down on his back, particularly if the sun was out and we had the canopy over his eyes. he would always cry almost immediately if he was in the bassinet and awake. we switched him as soon as he had good head control, around 3 or 3/12 months, attached some toys to the bar that goes across the seat, and now he loves to ride in the stroller!

Hi L.,

I switched my daughter to the bugaboo seat when she was much older than 3 months. I purchased the attachment that can snap on to your infant car seat (depending on what kind you have) Therefor she was in the car straight into the stroller without even having to get her up. You can purchase the attachment where you purchased your stroller.
