I love brussell sprouts. My husband and children do not. I rarely eat them . I steam them and then add some butter and salt. Is there any other way to prepare them? Maybe something the kids will try?

What can I do next?

Hi M.-

LOVE love brussell sprouts...and kids do as well. Wish they were cheaper!

Cut off bottom bit...slice in half...saute in olive oil...add a smidge of butter as well...when they have a 'brown' on...sprinkle with bread crumbs and some parm cheese...

YUM!

You can roast them in the oven in olive oil and salt.

My three kids have always liked brussell sprouts. They liked them steamed with butter and salt.

The only time I ever tried them I loved them. I cut them in half put, put them on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, add the big kosher salt (not sure if theres another name for that) and pepper and roast in the oven at about 400 for 10-12 minutes (I think was the time). Very good. I also do my asparagus that way

I have a hard time getting my kids to eat them also. But 2 of them love bacon so I cook up some bacon--cutup or crumbled in small pieces after it is cooked--and add to brussel sprouts steamed in chicken broth until almost done and then add to a saute in butter. It actually worked. I don't know if it helps, but I also cut the sprouts in half so they don't look so big. Thing is, my kids all love cabbage. Go figure.

Although my son loves them, I can't bring myself to cook or eat them because they were a "make-me-puke-on-my-plate" and "sit-there-til-you-eat-them or-bedtime-whatever's--first" food for me when I was a kid.
Have you looked at allrecipes.com? If anyplace has recipes for brussell sprouts, they will!
All I know is how you make them.

Dr Oz recommends an equal measure of black pepper, garlic and tumeric to enhance the health benefits.
Sorry I don't know how to make someone like them! I am the only one here who eats them also.

sometimes I cut the core out so the leaves fall off & then make them with a cream sauce...this is also how i get the kids to eat spinach, its not the healthiest but i use skim milk & low fat mozzarella

I love brussell sprouts and I make them like you do. Maybe put cheese on them. In my house you could coat poop with cheese and they will happily eat it. Behold the power of cheese!

Last time I made them I cut them in quarters and sauteed them in brown butter with some maple syrup, dried cranberries and sea salt. They were sweet, tender and delicious! I've found that sauteeing is the easiest way to cook them, that their natural sweetness comes out if cooked until the centers look slightly translucent and that they require more salt than you'd think to balance the flavors. Good luck! Now I'm hungry!

I love brussell sprouts too, but like your family I could never get my kids or my husband to eat them. Frankly nothing worked. Then I realized that meant more for me...I would rather fill up on sprouts then eat ice cream. I wish I had a bowl now!

Oh my gosh....we LOVE brussel sprouts! By we, I mean that includes my kids.
My son was really little and playing at a neighbor's house. I called to tell him he needed to come home in 15 minutes because dinner would be ready. He asked what we were having and when I mentioned brussel sprouts, he said, "Brussel sprouts? I'm coming home right now!" He said a hasty goodbye to the neighbor mom and ran out the door.
Another mom friend who was there visiting said she had never in her life seen a kid get so excited over brussel sprouts. In fact, she said she had never even seen a cooked brussel sprout in her life, let alone taste one.
I guess they are an acquired taste. Everyone in my family likes them.
We like them steamed with butter and garlic, but they are also good dipped in mayo or miracle whip. It cuts some of the tanginess. You might try that.
They are actually very good for you so I wouldn't give them up entirely because your family doesn't like them.

Best wishes.
