Brown Line on Tummy from Pregnancy

It has been 5 months since my son was born and I still have that pesky brown line on my tummy. My hubby teases me and says it looks like someone came up to me with a brown marker and started at my ribs and went down! I remember with my other kids the brown line did disappear, but not completely. This time around it seems much darker.

Did you moms do anything to help get rid of the brown line? What worked? Do any of you still have that line and did it fade significantly? I am bikini ready with or without it - but I would love to get rid of it if I can!

Thanks moms

linea nigra. ...sp*?... It occurs with women who have natural melanin in their skin. usually african american,Indian,Arabic , Egyptian,or Latin descent. You will see it occur in Caucasian women because they have some native american ancestry . It rarely stays after 1 year, but i have seen it happen, luckily it fades considerably after a few months.

Its funny because when i dont have a tan i am so very pale because i am part welsh, but the native american in me is also very prevalent. When i was pregnant both times i had that line,,,,proud and dark. really did look like someone marked down my belly.

id say sport a cute one peice, or a camisole suit.

I would make sure when you go out in the sun that you wear sunscreen so it does not get darker. I would go to a dermotologist. They probably have some cream that can help. I have a friend who has the brown patches you are describing on her face and she went to the dermotologist and they presribed her some cream and told her to wear the spf lotion on her face and told her to wear a hat when she went out in the son. It is definantly hormonal and a result of pregnancy. Good luck

It's been 9months for me, and it's faded but still there, especially above my navel. No lotions or oils helped either, it's hormonal. However, a little tanning helps hide it!

I had the same line and also never thought it would go away. Well, I forgot about it until I read your post, and now that I looked for it, it's gone. Can't tell you when it did though. My daughter is 20 months now.

There's nothing we can do. Mine was there until right around 7 months postpartum.

I say give it more time....things take longer to go back to 'normal' the more kids you have.

And for your teasing husband, I say you get yourself a permanent brown marker, draw a line on him and then return the teasing favor. I really hope he is doing this in a kind spirit, because if he is not, he needs to learn some manners.

I think it makes a difference depending on what kind of pigmentation you have in your skin. My daughter is so fair she practically glows in the dark and doesn't have it. She is due in May.
I'm on the fair side, but get very dark in the summer time and I had a line with both babies, but it faded completely.
I would ask your OB about it, or even the pediatrician at your baby's next check up. I'm sure they can give you an idea of how long it might take or what to do to help it fade.
Like another mom said, I would be sure to keep sunscreen on so it can't get darker.

Best wishes.

I just checked on mine; it's faint but still there! My daughter just turned 3. I'm part Okinawan, so maybe that's why it hasn't disappeared.

I somehow NEVER got that line. I'm pretty sure it's hormonal and will fade over time.

It will go away, on its own.
