Thursday evening I managed to slip and fall down my basement stairs. At 38 weeks pregnant, I guess I am pretty klutzy. Upon examination the doctor believes I broke my tailbone. Of course there is nothing to do for it and Tylenol is just not working. I can't sit, walk, lie down, every position hurts. I have a toddler to care for and my c-section is scheduled in 10 days. I don't know how I am going to recover from that and such a painful injury. I am beyond upset and really not sure where to go from here. :(

Oh, Honey, I simply cannot sympathize with you enough!! I broke my tailbone when I wasn't pregnant and went through 4 YEARS of agony before I broke down and let a chiropractor do an "internal" adjustment. The adjustment was agonizing, but the relief was immeasurable. If you have a c-section scheduled in 10 days, if I were you, I would make sure you are scheduled to have any adjustments that might be needed during the epidural. Make sure whatever specialist is necessary be in that operating room to assure that it is set to heal properly. Keep in mind, if you get it set properly, this pain WILL end...if you don't, it can go on and on and on.
In the meantime, it will be a long 10 days! Take the best care you can of yourself and hang in there.
Ouch! My mom did this while 9 mos pregnant with me and 4 decades later she still has intermittent pain. All of the advice below sounds reasonable and I assume you'll have an epidural with the c-section. That should help. Sometimes, my mom gets an epidural as an outpatient for her back pain. This bathes the spinal cord in anesthesia. She goes in at 7 and is out by 1.
I injured my tailbone right before my third was born. Be forewarned, this will cause you pain for at least a year. I had to lie down to nurse for the first few months, after that sitting on a doughnut pillow helped a lot. I also found icing it a couple of times a day really helped. Mine was just dislocated and I found a chiropractic adjustment helped a lot, too. I had to give birth on my hands and knees.
Time for you to enlist anyone who is willing to help. You will not be able to do this by yourself. I am so sorry, I really do understand how painful this is and will be for a long time :(
I don't have any advice, other than maybe trying one of those blow up donut things.
I will pray that you feel better ASAP.
Ugh - so sorry to hear that. It's a small comfort that you fell backwards onto your tailbone and not forward onto your belly, but not much, huh? Ice and rest are the best things. Chiropractic can help. Your pain meds for the c-section will help cut the pain but please try to stay off your feet and really heal.
There is also a natural anti-inflammatory that is well researched - it's food based and not a drug so it's safe for kids, pregnant and nursing moms. There's only one company that has exclusive rights to it - working with the lead scientist and researcher. If that interests you I can give you the info.
Like Kozmoma, I had to have my tailbone put back into place by a chiropractor. I will tell you that he tried by "adjustments" for several months until my father told him to either fix it or he would take me elsewhere. That's when he finally donned the gloves and did it internally. He should have in the first place (I think he was just trying to get more money out of my dad.) My tailbone was not broken. It was bent at a 45 degree angle into the nerves. After he pulled it back into place, I sat on a type of split seat (like a donut would provide) for 6 months. It helped prevent it from going back into the nerves and it worked. I haven't had any trouble since, and it has been 40 years since it happened.
I do know people who have had them removed after a break, so perhaps this might be what you will end up having done if they can't deal with it another way (I would try a chiropractor first, by the way). You shouldn't go all your life with constant pain like this.
