I have been done nursing my daughter and have been done for 6 months now but am still producing milk. I notice I still leak at times. This will happen sometimes when my daughter cries. Not a bunch but there is some. Is this common or when can I expect it to stop? Is there something I can do to stop this?

What can I do next?

Don't worry mine still do too and my son is 9 months old and I quit breastfeeding and pumping when he was 4 months old. The doctor told me this was normal and I have a friend who had the leakage until her daughter was six years old. I don't have it always just when I get really cold or the baby makes that special sound.

Lasted for more than a year for me. Weird, isn't it :)

This lasted for almost 3 years after my first baby. The irony is, I wasn't able to breastfeed naturally, so I pumped and bottled fed. After several months, I did not have the supply to keep going. So I didn't have enough to *feed* my son, but then leaked a little for years! With my second son, it stopped just a few months after I stopped nursing.

Mine leaked for 2 years after I got done nursing. I consulted my doctor and she told me there wasn't alot to be done. She also told me that some women will produce milk for the rest of their lives nearly. Just a touch here and there though. Sometimes medications can keep you lactating I've also read.

Regardless I'd talk to my doctor and maybe she/he will have an idea of something to try. Mine finally just dried up though after a little more than two years.

My son is 4 1/2, and I've had milk since I was 8 months pregnant with him. I nursed him for a year, and now I have a 13 month old, so there are some reasons, but I really didn't think I've have milk for almost 3 years before having #2. But--I didn't leak, as in let down. I just could express milk. If you're still leaking, I think there are (maybe this is old and they don't do it anymore?) medicines the doc can give you to encourage your milk to dry up. Like I said, though, maybe that's old and not something that's done anymore? It never bothered me because I never leaked, but I could see how that would be really frustrating.

I've had milk for more than a year after stopping. 12 months is completely normal, according to my doctor. I had milk that long with almost all of my children. I have 7 kids.

This is totally normal. I produced milk for over a year after I was done nursing & even up to a a few months ago i would still leak a little bit (son is almost 3).

The leaking is probably totally normal as everyone has said but I just wanted to add something. Leaking can be a sign of high prolactin levels, all breastfeeding moms have higher levels but they should drop to normal when weaning is complete. High prolactin can signal pituitary issues so you may want to mention it to your doctor. It is not usually a big issue but can impact fertility or rarely can be a sign of bigger problems. Again, probably normal but worth a call to the doctor.

I had well still have that issue, my son is now three years old, it's not much but every once in a while I still feel it. So it does lighten up it just takes time.

My son is 10 months old and there have been a few times when I thought I was leaking. The crazy thing is that I only pumped until he was 8 weeks old. I just figured I must have gotten my shirt wet somehow. I find it interesting to learn that you can still leak long after your done breastfeeding.

I had the same problem and I believe it lasted until my daughter was about 4 years old. I couldn't believe it I thought I'd never completely dry up and I only pumped til she was about 2mos.old btw she never caught on to breastfeeding.
