I exclusively breastfed my son and got my period when he was about 3 & 1/2 months. I wasn't planning on that!
Question for the nursing moms... how many months postpartum did you get your period back. I plan on nursing my son until he's one. I don't know if my 'aunt flo' stays away the entire time I'm nursing, or when he starts solids and doesn't nurse all the time. I'm sure everyone is different, but I just want to get an idea... and also I don't want to get caught 'off guard'.... you know how it is. I've heard when it comes back it can be extra heavy. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for all your input! I didn't realize there would be such a huge range in times from person to person. I guess when I ween him, I'll be prepared for it to pop up. Thanks so much!

my daughter is 6 1/2 months old, and i got my period 4 1/2 months postpartum. (the first time it lasted only 2 days, but it was very heavy the second time) i am exclusively breastfeeding. my sister was shocked to hear my period came back so early since hers didn't until about 9 months postpartum. so, i guess everyone's different.
My son was 5 months old when old aunt flo returned. What a bummer!
Hi, T.! I nursed my first son for one year and did not get my period until after I had weaned him. I currently nurse my second son (who's almost 11 months old) and there's no sign of my period yet. I've always had light periods in general, so that might have made a difference for me.
i got mine back once they started solids and were nursing 2 times less a day. it did not come back any heavier that before i had children, however it is more regular.
My son is 19 weeks old, and I pump 3x.day and nurse 1-2 times through the night. I have not yet had my period either, and am dreading when I do!! Hopefully I will get some warning before it shows back up! Good luck, I hope yours stays away also!
With my son my periods came back regular from the first month on. With my daughter they came back lighter when she was six months and I still nurse her. So I guess it can be different for each person and each baby.
I didn't have a period until a month after weaning (at 10 months postpartum). It really varies by person. Mine is definitely heavier and more painful, sorry to say.
Hi T.,
Everyone is different, and since I had no period while I nursed my first son(he nursed for 4 months), I assumed it would be the same with my second son. As usual, that's what I get for assuming. My postpartum bleeding stopped after 3 weeks, and about 2 weeks later I started having periods again. My doctor told me that some women do have regular periods while nursing and some don't. Guess I'm just lucky. I didn't notice a difference in flow the first time, but after the second one, there is a marked increase in heaviness, alot of clots too.

I nursed my daughter for a year. She was born in April and in November I got my first period... now I'm expecting our second (next week!) I didn't even have a chance to start counting my days... kind of hard when you've only had 1 post-partum period to base your counting off of.
