Hi Moms
just wanted to know what breast pumps you thought where great and what ones to stay away from.
I am due in nov with son number 2 and I didnt use a pump with my first son wish I had. So I have no idea on where to start or even what to look for. I would like to breast feed and bottle feed with breast milk so "daddy" and big brother who is 6 can help out. Any info will be very helpful there are too many to find one on my own.
THANK YOU ALL!!!!

What can I do next?

I've used the medela pump in style (first baby), the whisperwear pump (second baby), a hospital grade pump, and the avent hand pump (both with the third baby). hospital pump was definitely the fastest and got the most milk, and I could do both sides at once, but I liked the hand pump best, especially since I wasn't pumping much -- I'm at home with my kids -- it was basically for the occasional night out or so someone else could feed him a bit. I still use the pump occasionally (my third is 17 mo now) but it's basically only for my own comfort when I'm away from him for long enough that I get too full, like the occasional night away or when I'm attending a long birth as a doula.

Medela Pump in Style Dual Pump worked very well for me. It was quick, comfortable and fairly quiet compared to the Evenflo one I'd used before.

I also used the Medela Pump in Style with my first and currently using it again with my second and it works great. It's also convenient to use away from home. As a side note, I was told that the Freestyle version doesn't work well. I have a pumping bra which makes it even more convenient to pump.

I was really happy with my Ameda double pump. A woman who was pumping at the same time I was used two Medela Swings to simulate a double pump. Two were about the cost of the double pump and gave her flexibility. We both pumped for a year and breastfed for some months past that--we both went back to work full time when our daughters were 10 weeks.

Medela Pump-in-Style worked great for me. I breastfed twins and worked full time. It held up and did the job well!

I used the Medela Pump in Style with both of my kids! It worked perfectly for me. I used it a lot....pumped at work for a year for both of them. It's expensive though so I would check Craigslist first. A lot of people get pumps for their shower and never use them b/c they decide to use formula instead :-)

Medela Pump-in-Style, and as someone else mentioned, find out whether your insurance will pay for it.

I only pump occasionally, but I'm so happy I have an automatic pump that can pump two sides at once. I have used a manual pump, and it works , but it's time consuming and tiring, and I would be much less likely to pump if my pump were manual.

I really liked the Avent manual pump as well...very portable and not a lot of cleanup!

Medela pump in style. I hardly produced any breastmilk, but what I did have the pump stimulated enough to get it out. It was easy to use too. Good Luck.

I love my avent isis manual pump. it's been through two babies with me. it's manual but works really really good. Just make sure you don't buy an old one on ebay or something, they updated the valve system and it is much better. you want the duckbill valve. If you buy it new at target or whatever it will have the new valve.

I rented from the hospital- which works out well especially if you're not sure what you like or how much you'll use it. Definately would recommend a double pump. Good luck!

Definitely rent from your hospital...you can from most of them!!! It was so much more cost effective. I used a Medela and loved it (double pump).

i have the double medela pump (backpack style), which my insurance payed for...it's worth calling your insurance comapny to see if they cover the cost of a pump, i had two different insurances (blue cross and harvard pilgrim) when i had newborns and both covered pumps..really good ones...i think the ones i got retailed for $300.
