Breast Pumps - Gosport,IN

I'm looking for advice on the best breast pumps. With my previous pregnancy (over 5 years ago) I used one of the medulla brest pumps, which worked great, but I really don't want to spend $280-$380 on one. I was looking at the Playtex Nurser and tried to find reviews on different store websites, but couldn't find any. As anyone used the Playtex Nurser? Or are there any other breast pumps that you used and liked that weren't too expensive. I will be using it daily once I return to work, so I want it to be a dual pump and electric (not manual). Any other information about comfort, loudness, and how fast it worked would be helpful.
Thanks

I used a Medela Pump N Style. I got it from my sister - I just bought new hoses and sterilized the bottles so, for me, it was free.

However, considering how often I used it (2-5 times a day for 8 months!) I would definitely buy a Medela if I had to. To me, the breast pump was one of, if not the, most important pieces of baby gear.

Did I need a bassinet, pack n play AND crib? No. Did I need a swing, vibrating seat AND portable swing? No. Did I need dozens of little bright colored toys? No.

Did I need a great breast pump? Yes.

My point being, if $$$ is an issue, scrimp someplace else.

Congratulations on the new baby!

I used the duel even flow electric pump and it worked awesome. My son nursed for over 10.5 months. It was only $35 at target and the rating were awesome on it.

My Medela Pump N Style was the best $279 I ever spent. Worth every penny. I bought it 7 years ago and still going strong on fourth kid. Don't know what it costs these days, or if there is a new model. I had a manual cheapie that worked well for a few weeks, then lost suction and I was so glad to have a good pump after that. Good job for pumping at work! Keep it up.

I know you mentioned you already have experience with the Medela, but I can not say enough good things about their products. I loved their breastpump. I used mine for 15 months with my first child and then again two years when my second child was born for another 15 months. It is expensive, but I firmly believe it was worth every penny. I was fortunate that my coworkers went in and got me a gift card for babies r us. It really helped offset the costs. Good Luck. I hope you find what you are looking for.

I've got a Medela Pump In Style (the backpack one) that I'd be happy to part with. I was going to sell it on Craigslist anyway. $75 is my asking price.

I used it maybe 10x - I just never really breastfed or did any of that with my kids. So it's sitting in my closet.

I did use it, so you'd want to sterilize it, or buy new hoses.

Medela has had some problems with their design and their manufacturing process lately- the FDA just issued them a warning letter. Since the Pump-in-Style isn't a sealed system, I definitely would not get one used. The issues with sterility aren't with the hoses, flanges, or bottles- those can be replaced or sterilized. It's with the contamination that can go back into the motor and cause mold and yeast to grow.

Personally, I own a seconhand Lactina, which is a rental unit designed to be used by multiple users. It's bulky and heavy, but it's a real workhorse unit. My second choice would be an Ameda Purely Yours. It's equivalent to the PIS, but IMO it's better made. I would not buy any pump made by Playtex or Evenflo.

Ameda Purely Yours. I don't think it's as expensive as a medela and it's dual electric. It's also not loud and you can adjust the speed. You could probably even buy one used and go to the Ameda website to buy the hygiene pack so you can have new tubing and stuff. Milk does not go through any machine parts.

I know that some people get creeped out by this, but you could buy a used medella. Short of a hospital grade pump, they are the best. You could buy all new tubing and parts so it's sterile, if you are worried about it. You'd really only be reusing the motor.

Good luck.

I know you said you don't want a manual pump, but I used the Avent Isis, which retails for around or less than $40, and I went back to work at 6 weeks after my first two boys were born and pumped full time for almost a year with both. I did have to buy a new pump for my third so I bought the same one (I guess 22+ months of full-time pumping, plus weekends, was too much for the poor thing and it stopped working eventually). So I just wanted to say that I LOVE the Avent Isis and I could usually pump both sides in about 15 minutes, and I get a lot of milk at a time (sometimes more than 6-8 ounces per breast). I borrowed an electric pump once and hated it, so found the manual to be very comfortable. Good luck picking!

I used Ameda Purely Yours and loved it. It was $99 and worth every penny. Quick, not too noisy and I got out a ton of milk.

You can rent one sometimes form drugstores or medical equipment suppliers. Also, you can buy one on Ebay. I sold mine and the people just boiled/sterilized the hoses. You might even be able to buy the hoses new from Medula. The cheaper ones didn't work, but I had troubles with flow and amount.
