Bread to Go with Chicken Pot Pie?

Once every two months or so, the first grade room reps at our school prepare a special lunch to treat the teachers. This month the main dish is chicken pot pie with salad. I was asked to make the bread. I don't usually serve bread when I make pot pies (the crust is already a bread), so I am uncertain what I should serve. I am leaning towards corn bread muffins. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who thinks it is overkill on the bread and carbs. I think it's a case of they "always" have a main dish, salad, bread, dessert, drinks and someone to bring the dishes. I'll make a sweeter corn bread with honey butter. Something sweet to go with the savory. I appreciate the input!

Agree, bread with chicken pot pie is overkill on the carbs and will probably go to waste. I'd let the other reps know this and suggest another veggie side or a dessert instead. I guess whomever put this month's menu together didn't stop to think that chicken pot pie is one of those "all food groups in one" meals.

This was just one of those questions I had to share with my husband so he could laugh as well.

Any chance you can point out to the school that people don't really serve bread with chicken pot pie? It just seems silly, if you figure out a bread that they want to eat then the crust won't be eaten, no one, okay I can't think of a human on earth that will eat both so it seems wasteful.

Boston Market (chain /fast food place) serves chicken pot pie with corn bread. You could make individual corn muffins to serve.

A Light, Crusty bread to complement the stew within the pie crust.

A good crusty Sourdough, French loaf, or Ciabatta are nice ones to pair with stew.

Often the crust is very light, and mixes in the stew, so a bread is served.

All three of those also go well with a green salad.

Hope this helps.

I like a nice biscuit with mine because there is never enough crust for me. I like corn bread with chili but not with my pot pie.

My teen daughter is a server in a restaurant that is known for their comfort type foods. They serve corn bread with their pot pies. Muffins would be easier to serve.

I'd just do biscuits and hopefully they have a biscuit type dough on the pot pies.

Bread with chicken pot pie seems unnecessary. But, if i were to choose one kind, i would probably do the sweet hawaiian rolls. YUM.

I probably wouldn't take a piece of bread along to go along with chicken pot pie, but I might take a corn muffin.

Mmmm... corn bread sounds great with chicken pot pie. Can I come? Many people don't eat a pot pie crust and might choose the corn bread instead - especially when they smell the fragrance.

If I didn't want to rock the boat, I'd make a dessert bread, like zucchini or pumpkin. YUM. :)

(But no...I would never serve bread with a pot pie. Just like I don't serve a side of rice with a pasta dish, or fries with my baked potato. Oh well...this has been good for a laugh.)

But I'd probably rock the boat and suggest something else, I guess. Maybe a fruit dish?
